Bungie has addressed Destiny 2’s perk drop concerns, acknowledging a potential issue with RNG and promising an investigation into community findings.
Over the last two to three days, some players noticed possible issues with Destiny 2’s weapon perk system. It all started when a player reported that certain perk combinations on the VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher seemed impossibly rare.
Bungie initially denied any intentional perk weighting, but as more data surfaced, players discovered patterns suggesting non-uniform distribution across multiple weapons.
The controversy escalated when additional analysis revealed that the issue might not be limited to just the VS Chill Inhibitor. Data from multiple weapons, including older gear, showed a pattern where perks positioned further apart in the game’s API were less likely to appear together.
With mounting evidence, Bungie has finally addressed the concerns with a new statement.
Bungie’s New Response to Destiny 2’s RNG Perk Bug
After a day of speculation, Bungie has acknowledged that while there is no intentional perk weighting for Destiny 2’s legendary weapons, it is investigating a potential issue with the RNG code that determines perk drops.
Here’s the full statement the developer shared on the official Destiny 2 Team account on X (Twitter):
“Regarding further reports of perk weighting: While we have confirmed that there is no intentional perk weighting on weapons within our content setup, we are now investigating a potential issue within our code for how RNG perks are generated.
“Many thanks to all players who have been contributing to data collection across the community. This data has been monumentally helpful with our investigation, and we are currently working on internal simulations to confirm your findings. We will provide more information as soon as it is available.”
This acknowledgment has given players a sense of validation, as their efforts to expose inconsistencies in the game’s loot system have led to a formal investigation.
While it remains uncertain when Bungie will release more details or implement fixes, the statement indicates that the developer is taking the community’s findings seriously.
In other news, Bungie has finally revealed more details about Destiny 2’s annual Halloween event – Festival of the Lost. This year’s event kicks off next week, bringing in brand-new Wizard-themed armor sets, a new legendary weapon, new masks, and most excitingly, the ability to purchase Exotic Class Items from Eva Levante.
