NetEase Games has recently addressed concerns over the use of AI-generated voicelines in the Destiny: Rising Closed Alpha test.

Destiny fans got their first hands-on look at Destiny: Rising yesterday with the start of the game’s Closed Alpha. Developed and published by NetEase Games under Bungie’s licensing, this highly anticipated mobile title marks the Destiny universe’s debut on mobile.

Set in an alternate timeline after the Dark Age, Destiny: Rising promises to explore a new chapter with the first Iron Lords and other Lightbearers, providing a fresh angle on the series’ lore.

In Destiny: Rising, players can expect familiar elements like PvP and PvE activities, exotic weapons, and cosmetics – but all designed from the ground up for mobile.

However, shortly after the Alpha launched, fans noticed something unexpected: a number of voicelines in the game were AI-generated, indicated by a small “[AI]” label beside them. This led to a lot of concerns among players.

NetEase Responds to AI Voiceline In Destiny: Rising

Following the response from players, NetEase quickly issued a statement to address the use of AI-generated voicelines in Destiny: Rising. The game’s community manager, Marunaru, clarified the situation in the game’s official Discord server, emphasizing that the current Alpha build is still in an early stage and that these AI voicelines are just temporary.

The full statement reads as follows:

“We’re thrilled by the positive reception we’ve seen so far for the game, and we look forward to the feedback you’ll be able to share with us over the duration of the DRCA. [Destiny: Rising Closed Alpha]

“We’ve noticed some have been a little confused over the placeholder AI-generated voiceovers in the DRCA build of the game, so we want to help clarify that topic. These are indeed placeholders and will be changed in the final build of the game. This is still a very early build of the game, so please excuse our dust.”
