Destiny 2’s Dawning 2024 event launched with major bugs, from broken triumphs to missing quests.
Yesterday, Bungie launched the annual holiday event, The Dawning, in Destiny 2. Normally, this event brings holiday cheer to players, complete with baking cookies, new armor sets for each class, cosmetics, sparrows, and ships.
However, this year’s Dawning has been anything but cheerful. Players quickly discovered a bunch of bugs that left many questioning Bungie’s quality assurance processes, sparking frustration across the community.
This isn’t an isolated issue, either. Following the launch of Episode Revenant, players encountered one of the most disruptive bugs in Destiny’s history, a flaw in the RNG perk system for weapons.
The Dawning’s state has further eroded players’ confidence, and it’s part of a recurring pattern. Destiny 2’s annual events—Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost, and The Dawning—have consistently launched with numerous bugs, including broken systems and weapons dropping with incorrect perks.
Destiny 2 The Dawning 2024: A Buggy Mess
Here’s a list of the reported bugs so far for the Dawning event in Destiny 2:
- Event Card Upgrade: A major bug allowed players to obtain the premium Event Card Upgrade, normally priced at 1,000 Silver ($10), for free.
- Weapon Focusing and Drops: Dawning weapons are bugged and players can not focus the weapons at Eva Levante. The weapons are also not dropping with the double perks.
- Quest Issues: Some players aren’t receiving Dawning quests on specific characters, while others find themselves stuck in the introductory quest when baking cookies for Zavala.
- Triumph Problems: Multiple Event Card Triumphs, including Amateur, Adept, and Expert Baker, aren’t progressing even after meeting their requirements.
- Quest Resets: Players have reported that their introductory Dawning quest resets after completing certain steps, and recipes on main characters sometimes vanish if an alternate character picks up the Dawning quest.
- Title and Triumph Issues: Triumphs for the Star Baker title are auto-unlocked if previously guilded, a bug Bungie says won’t be fixed.
- Placeholder Icons: The Dark Frosting ingredient displays a placeholder icon instead of the intended one.
- Cosmetic Issues: Some players are unable to purchase the Lucent Night Warlock Bundle.
- Broken Quests: Claiming the memento quest rewards nothing, and Eva’s vendor menu incorrectly shows the Solstice questline.
- Text Errors: The oven text for recipes contains incorrect information.
The community’s frustration is evident, with players voicing their concerns across forums and social media. One Reddit user shared, “Bungie, you should just delay [Episode] Heresy at this point. Each new update brings more bugs than new content, each time something isn’t working as intended, it might as well be a delay.”
Another player added, “I think it’s safe to say that Bungie cutting their internal QA as part of the restructure has had negative outcomes for the playerbase.” This sentiment reflects ongoing concerns following recent layoffs at Bungie, which included members of their quality assurance team.
Some players have also criticized the lack of innovation in these events. “I am constantly amazed at how little they change from year to year for these seasonal events, and yet how much manages to break regardless.,” one user noted.
Another user added: “Bungie has done an excellent job of making me not want to play. I don’t think I’ve ever been away from the game this long and had absolutely no desire to touch it.”
It’s clear that many players feel let down with the launch of this year’s Dawning event in Destiny 2. With the upcoming Episode Heresy set to launch on February 4, 2025, fans are left wondering whether Bungie can address its apparent QA issues in time to deliver a more polished experience.
