Nintendo’s frustration over the massive Switch 2 leaks has reached a boiling point, says former employees.

The highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch, unofficially dubbed the Switch 2, is set to be revealed tomorrow, January 16, 2025 – that’s according to multiple reports. While fans are brimming with excitement for the next-generation console, leaks and rumors about its features, pricing, and launch titles have been impossible to ignore.

For months, the internet has been flooded with reports about everything from GPU performance rivaling the Steam Deck to potential limited edition bundles featuring a new Mario Kart title. This steady drip of leaked information, however, has not only dampened Nintendo’s plans for a grand reveal but has reportedly left the company fuming behind closed doors.

Former Nintendo PR managers Kit & Krysta recently shed light on the situation during their podcast, painting a picture of a company in turmoil.

Nintendo Is “Very, Very, Very Upset By This”

Kit & Krysta, who spent over a decade working inside Nintendo, did not hold back in describing the company’s current mood. “I am 100% sure that they are really mad, to the most severe level,” Krysta said, adding that Nintendo is “very, very, very upset by this.”

The former employees emphasized that maintaining an element of surprise has always been integral to Nintendo’s philosophy, and the recent leaks have struck at the heart of this approach.

“This really does have a very disruptive impact on what the company trying to do now which is announce and launch a new console, which is hard enough as it is,” they explained, pointing to the challenges of preparing for a major hardware reveal while simultaneously investigating how confidential details have been exposed.

Nintendo’s Japan headquarters, they noted, has a process-driven culture that demands exhaustive reports whenever such breaches occur.

This has only added to the workload of employees who are already scrambling to finalize launch preparations. Recent leaks have painted a vivid picture of what the Switch 2 might offer.

Reports suggest it will feature a powerful GPU, pricing around €399 ($400), and a launch lineup of 25 titles. A French retailer’s listing hinted at a limited-edition bundle, while datamined information suggests new Joy-Con functionality with a mysterious “C” button.

In related news, Nintendo’s legal team reportedly visited the booth of accessory maker Genki at CES 2025. Genki had showcased a mockup of the Switch 2, prompting swift action from the company to address what appeared to be unauthorized use of confidential designs.
