More than 2,800 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles have been stolen during shipping, with the missing cargo valued at over $1.4 million, per a new report.

The Nintendo Switch 2 just hit store shelves earlier this month, and it’s already breaking records left and right. From Japan to the U.S., the console is flying off shelves faster than retailers can restock it. It sold nearly a million units in Japan during its first week and racked up over 1.1 million sales in the U.S. alone, and that doesn’t even include Nintendo’s own online store numbers.

With titles like Mario Kart World and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Switch 2 Edition leading the charge, fans can’t get enough of the upgraded console. Whether it’s the faster load times or improved graphics, people everywhere are trying to get their hands on one.

But now, there’s a new development that’s raising eyebrows, and it doesn’t involve gameplay or launch numbers.

Over $1.4 Million Worth of Switch 2 Consoles Stolen From Truck, Report Says

According to a report from 9News, local authorities in Colorado are investigating a major theft involving a truck carrying Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says the theft was discovered on the morning of June 8 at Love’s Truck Stop, located at 1191 S. 1st St. in Bennett, Colorado.

A truck driver was doing a standard pre-trip inspection when he noticed something was wrong; several pallets of cargo were missing, and the trailer had clearly been broken into. Turns out, those missing pallets contained 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, each retailing for $499. That adds up to over $1.4 million in stolen goods.

The driver told investigators he was on his way to deliver the shipment to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas, after picking it up from Nintendo of America’s facility in Redmond, Washington. He also mentioned that he didn’t know exactly what was inside, only that it was a load of games or toys.

At this time, investigators aren’t sure where exactly the theft took place. It might have happened in Bennett or somewhere else along the route. “If caught, the suspect(s) could face charges of felony theft valued at $1 million or more, as well as Criminal Mischief,” the report reads.

A photo shared by the sheriff’s office shows the inside of the empty trailer where the consoles were once stored, a clear sign of just how large the heist was.

As of now, neither Nintendo nor GameStop has made a public statement about the incident. The Game Post has reached out to both companies for comment and will update this story if we hear back.
