Bungie is dialing back Destiny 2’s raid and dungeon difficulty after Edge of Fate’s tough changes left many players frustrated.
It’s been a rocky two weeks for Destiny 2 players who enjoy raiding with friends. After the Edge of Fate update launched on July 15, many fans quickly realized that raids and dungeons weren’t just tougher, they were, for a lot of groups, downright punishing. The new difficulty settings meant even veteran teams had to treat every run like a day-one raid, and casual raid nights with friends started to dry up fast.
Across Reddit and X (Twitter), the main topic has been just how much harder raiding has become. Folks with thousands of clears were finding themselves stuck or frustrated, and plenty of players said their regular groups simply stopped trying.
Many described the new “normal” difficulty as feeling like the old hardest mode, and the fun, social side of raiding just wasn’t there anymore.
Bungie Announces Major Raid and Dungeon Difficulty Changes For Destiny 2
Now, Bungie has finally responded to all the feedback. In a post on the Destiny 2 Team social media account, the studio confirmed that changes are on the way to make things a bit more forgiving in raids and dungeons.
Here’s what’s coming: Bungie is reducing the combat difficulty for both normal and master modes in all legacy raids and dungeons by 10 Power. What that means is enemies won’t hit quite as hard, and your team will have a little more breathing room during big encounters.
“We’ve been watching feedback the past few weeks focused on Raid and Dungeon difficulty,” Bungie said. “The following changes are being planned for future updates: We will be updating the difficulty for Legacy Raid and Dungeon activities to address player feedback.
“The Combat Difficulty for normal and master modes will be reduced by 10 Power.” This means that “enemies will deal less damage and players will be able to deal more damage.”
For many, this is exactly the kind of fix they’ve been hoping for. It should make raids more approachable again, not just for the top-tier teams, but for everyone who likes to get together with friends and have a good time.
As of now, Bungie hasn’t shared an exact release date for when this update will go live. In related news, Bungie has also commented on the controversy around cheaters during the recent Desert Perpetual contest mode, saying that “cheating to complete contest difficulty or other activities is a bannable offense, and players benefiting from cheating can also be subject to punishment.”
