A new report claims Marvel’s next saga is centered around Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse, with Ryan Reynolds also working on a mutants team-up project.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been busy laying the groundwork for its next big era after Secret Wars. Now, a new report from well-known insider Daniel Richtman, posted on his Patreon page (paywalled), points to where things might be headed.
According to Richtman, Marvel’s current plans for the “next saga” are built around two iconic X-Men villains: Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse. These characters have long been fan-favorites in the comics, with Apocalypse previously appearing on the big screen in Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
If true, this suggests Marvel is wasting no time putting mutants at the center of their universe once the dust settles from Secret Wars.
“I hear once more Marvel’s main plans for [the] next saga are for Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse,” Richtman wrote.
At this stage, there’s no official casting locked in for either villain, though Richtman notes Marvel already has “some names they have in mind.” While speculation will no doubt run wild, fans should probably temper expectations until more concrete announcements are made by Marvel Studios.
Ryan Reynolds MCU Mutants Movie Also in the Works?
The other interesting tidbit is about Ryan Reynolds. Richtman reports that Reynolds is developing his own mutants team-up movie for Marvel’s next saga. It’s unclear if this project would directly spin out of Deadpool & Wolverine or if it’s something completely separate, but having Reynolds actively shaping a mutant-focused story signals Marvel’s confidence in him as a long-term creative force.
“Ryan Reynolds is making his own mutants team-up movie for [the] next saga,” Richtman said.
Feige has already hinted publicly that mutants and the X-Men will take center stage after Secret Wars. Pairing that with Richtman’s claims makes it easier to see how the puzzle pieces could fit together: a saga framed around two of the most powerful mutant villains, with projects like Reynolds’ team-up film helping to build out this new corner of the MCU.
Of course, this is all still unconfirmed and should be taken with a huge grain of salt until Marvel makes things official. But for longtime X-Men fans, the idea of seeing Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse properly introduced into the MCU is bound to be exciting.
