Former Battlefield director Marcus Lehto says he’s “disappointed” after noticing many Ridgeline Games developers, who helped build the foundation of Battlefield 6, were left out or buried in the credits, including himself.

Battlefield 6 has been one of EA’s biggest launches in years. Released on October 10, the game saw over seven million copies sold in just three days, making it the biggest debut in Battlefield history. Built under the “Battlefield Studios” banner, the project brought together several teams across the globe: DICE, Ripple Effect, Criterion, and Motive Studio. But there was one team that didn’t make it to the finish line, Ridgeline Games.

Ridgeline was originally founded to lead the game’s single-player campaign, headed by Marcus Lehto, co-creator of Halo and the studio’s VP, Studio GM, and Creative Director. The team spent more than a year and a half developing the campaign’s foundation before Lehto left voluntarily in early 2024. Soon after, EA shut the studio down, moving some staff to Ripple Effect while Criterion took over the single-player side.

Now, Lehto has spoken out, and he’s not happy with how things turned out in the final release.

Marcus Lehto calls out missing credits from Battlefield 6

In a new LinkedIn post, Marcus Lehto said he was “disappointed” to see that many of his former Ridgeline teammates were not properly credited in Battlefield 6. According to him, these developers “worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years, building the foundation of the game,” before the studio’s closure.

Lehto claims that most laid-off developers were only mentioned in a “Special Thanks” section at the very end of the game’s credits, while some were omitted entirely, including himself.

To make things right, Lehto posted a custom image showing the Ridgeline Games credit list as he believed it should have appeared. The list includes dozens of developers across cinematics, design, art, animation, engineering, and production, all of whom he says played a major part in shaping the early version of Battlefield 6.

Initially, Lehto’s post included a list of five former Ridgeline employees he believed were missing from the official Battlefield 6 credits. However, he later clarified that three of those individuals were, in fact, credited elsewhere within the game. As it stands, only two names, Lehto himself and lead technical artist Rohan Knuckey, appear to have been left out entirely.

  • Marcus Lehto – VP / Studio GM / Creative Director

He emphasized that game development is a “team effort,” and proper credit matters.

Here’s Lehto’s full statement from his post:

“I’m disappointed to see that many of my former teammates from Ridgeline Games were not properly credited in the recent release of Battlefield 6.

“These talented developers worked tirelessly for 1 to 2.5 years, building the foundation of the game, before I left voluntarily and the studio was subsequently shuttered. Despite their significant contributions, most who were laid off were relegated to a “Special Thanks” section at the very end of the credits — and several were omitted entirely, including myself.

“Out of respect for my colleagues and the awesome work they poured into this project, I want to take a moment to properly recognize them — listing their names and roles as I would have preferred them to appear in the credits.

“Game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment.”
