In a recent interview, Bungie confirms a newly-introduced character in Destiny 2 Renegades is planned to return in future stories, lining up with new leaks about Shadow & Order.

Destiny 2’s Renegades expansion is the series’ first full crossover with Star Wars. Instead of just a few armor sets in Eververse, this DLC is a full paid expansion built around Star Wars visuals, a space western tone, and new weapons that look like they fell out of a Lucasfilm concept book. You get the Praxic Blade, a glowing energy sword that clearly fills the lightsaber fantasy, and a range of blasters that lean into that “pew pew” fantasy in a way Destiny has never really tried before.

On top of that, Renegades brings a new Lawless Frontier activity, Star Wars-inspired set pieces on Venus, Mars, and Europa, and a campaign that sits inside the Fate Saga instead of feeling like throwaway side content. Bungie has been clear that this collab had to matter to the ongoing saga.

It is not just the gear that leans into Star Wars. Renegades is packed with new and returning faces that pull from classic Star Wars archetypes without copying them outright. Dredgen Bael is very clearly cut from that Revan and Kylo Ren cloth. Alongside Drifter, Eido, Aunor Mahal, and Eris, they give the expansion a cast that feels familiar to Star Wars fans but still true to Destiny.

Bungie has already made it clear we have not seen the last of at least one of the new characters, with plans for them to show up again in future stories.

Bungie wants Renegades villain to stick around

Speaking with Rogue about how they built the cast for Renegades, Narrative Director Alison Lührs talked about Dredgen Bael as a key example. She made it clear that this character is meant to travel with the saga, not disappear after one DLC. Lührs explained that they took that Revan or Kylo-inspired idea, added Destiny on top, and landed on someone they want to carry forward.

In her words, Dredgen Bael is “a character that we want to take with us outside of Renegades too,” and “we’re going to see him again.”

“So begin with this foundation and then build something interesting on top of that,” Lührs said. “Dredgen and Bael’s a really good example. We took a Revan/Kylo Ren, added some pizazz from Destiny on top of it, and we’re able to make something that feels new and fresh for our IP. And it’s a character that we want to take with us outside of Renegades too. We’re going to see him again. Yeah, I’m a big believer in taking those things.”

Assistant Game Director Robbie Stevens backed that up by saying the team had wanted to bring Dredgens back for a while, even before the Star Wars collaboration was on the table, and Renegades finally gave them the right moment to do it. “Yeah, we wanted to bring the Dredgens back well before Renegades, well before the collaboration,” Stevens said.

On top of that, recent leaks from known dataminer Colony Deaks add even more fuel. In a text dump that correctly called some Renegades details ahead of launch, the X (Twitter) account claimed that the upcoming Shadow & Order Major update would bring “the Dredgen organization as a whole” back into focus, with no sign of Shin Malphur in sight.

As always, that part is unconfirmed and could change, but it lines up neatly with Bungie’s own comments about wanting to keep Dredgens in play.

Apart from that, recent reports have suggested that Destiny 3 is in “extremely early development” at Bungie. On the Star Wars side, leaker Kurakasis has teased a new game with a title that ends in “The Old Republic.”
