Secret Level creators reveal their efforts to create a Halo x Doom crossover episode.
The animated anthology series Secret Level on Amazon Prime Video was officially released in late 2024. Combining stunning animation with narratives rooted in iconic video games, Secret Level set a high bar, earning comparisons to Love, Death & Robots.
The show’s unique approach to storytelling sparked numerous fan theories, including speculation about potential crossover episodes. Among the most exciting possibilities? A Halo and Doom collaboration.
The idea of Master Chief and Doom Slayer sharing the screen seemed like the perfect match for Secret Level’s creative approach. Fans envisioned epic battles and unexpected camaraderie between the two gaming titans.
However, the creators Tim Miller and Dave Wilson have confirmed that while the idea was pitched with heartfelt enthusiasm, the episode never made it past Microsoft’s gatekeepers.
Amazon’s Secret Level Halo x Doom Episode
In a new interview with Collider, Miller and Wilson shared the behind-the-scenes effort to bring this ambitious vision to life. “We made a big plea,” Wilson revealed, even crafting a heartfelt letter to Microsoft and id Software. The proposal aimed to unite Master Chief and Doom Slayer in a shared narrative that would explore unexplored facets of their characters.
Wilson said, “The creative director at id [Software] is a good friend of ours, and so are folks at Microsoft, so we made a big plea because one of the things both Tim and I would love to do is do something that isn’t currently available in the games, like crossovers.”
“We wanted to make a Master Chief/Doom Slayer crossover episode, and I spent a whole weekend crafting this impassioned letter of my childhood. And it’s exactly what Tim said; they were like, ‘Nah.'”
Miller added, “Of course, we begged for Half-Life too…” Despite this setback, Secret Level has officially been renewed for a second season, giving fans something to look forward to. With new opportunities to explore beloved game worlds, who’s to say Master Chief and Doom Slayer won’t someday team up?
The interview also shed light on other hurdles, like budget constraints, legal complexities, and the sheer passion that animators, directors, and voice actors poured into the project.
