Here’s the best early-game loot farm for Borderlands 4, which should give you plenty of XP, materials, and of course, those shiny Legendary loot drops.
Borderlands 4 is out now, and it brings back everything fans love about the series: chaotic shootouts, over-the-top humor, and more loot than you know what to do with. The game officially launched earlier today, and it’s packed with over 30 billion guns thanks to the new Licensed Parts system.
If you’re just getting started in the story, the name of the game is simple: grab as much loot and steady XP as you can so leveling stays smooth. This guide walks through the single best early-game farm we’ve tested so far. It’s fast, easy to reach, and drops blues, purples, and even Legendaries, perfect for powering through the first chapters.
Borderlands 4 Best Early Legendary Farm
The target here is Splashzone, one of the first bosses you’ll fight as part of the campaign. You encounter him in the Fadefields area at around level 4 or 5. Normally, you’d move on after beating him once, but thanks to Moxxi’s Encore Machine, you can pay a fee to instantly replay the fight over and over. Every kill has a chance to drop high-rarity loot, including Splashzone’s dedicated Legendary items.
Before you start grinding, you’ll want to unlock a convenient fast travel point. The best option is the Stockroom Silo, but you can also use the Abandoned Post if you haven’t reached it yet. Once you have that set, you’re ready to start the loop.
Getting to the Farm Location
From the Stockroom Silo, make your way toward the silo contraption outside. Grapple up, launch yourself across the gap, and aim between the large tree on the left and the rock on the right. This drops you right into the valley where Splashzone is located. There are a couple of enemies at the top of the route; clear them, and it’ll just make your runs smoother.
Right outside the boss arena, before you jump across the broken bridge, you’ll find Moxxi’s Encore Machine next to a vending/ammo machine. Top off ammo, sell your junk, hit the Encore, jump the gap, melt the boss, and repeat.
You do need to pay to re-trigger the Encore every run, so make a habit of scooping valuables and marking trash to keep your wallet topped up. The farm is incredible for gear and solid cash, while XP gains are intentionally modest for boss loops—treat it as a loot route first.
How the Splashzone Farm Works
To repeat the farm, go to Moxxi’s Encore Machine and pay to reactivate the Splashzone boss. This resets the fight instantly. Jump across the arena gap, kill the boss, scoop up the loot, mark your junk to sell, and loop it again.
The fight is fast, the travel is minimal, and you get a vending machine right there for nonstop runs.
What Can Drop From Splashzone
This boss has three dedicated Legendary drops, and you can get more than one at a time if you’re lucky. Exact drop rates aren’t confirmed, but you’ll reliably see blues and purples with Legendaries popping in.
- Lead Balloon (Torque Shotgun): Fires floating projectiles that burst into child projectiles. The alt-fire sticky mode is incredibly strong for single targets. A Jakobs Licensed Part roll lets sticky crits ricochet.
- Jelly (Grenade Ordnance): Tap to throw; it pauses, “punches” forward, explodes, then replicates to tag another target/surface.
- Fireworks (Legendary Armor Shield): On kill, spawns homing missiles that seek nearby enemies and deal splash, matching the shield’s element.
You can farm this boss as soon as you first take him down, and they scale with you, so even if you come back at level 20 or 30, the farm is still useful. Purple and blue gear here is also worth using, thanks to the new Licensed Parts system, you don’t need orange to feel powerful anymore.
If you’re planning to build a strong loadout or just want to stay ahead of the power curve, this farm is the fastest way to do it without waiting for endgame content.
That’s the farm. If you found this useful, check out our Borderlands 4 hub for the latest news, guides, tips, builds, boss routes, weekly resets, and more.
