Borderlands 4’s October 2 update is here with major Vault Hunter buffs, balance changes, and fixes. Check out the full patch notes for this update in this article.
Borderlands 4 has been out for a few weeks now, having launched on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Recently, Gearbox confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 version, originally expected later this year, has been delayed indefinitely.
Just last week, the devs rolled out an 11 GB patch that added a console FOV slider, rotated some of the weekly activities, and made a bunch of stability and progression fixes. And during Tokyo Game Show, Gearbox also teased the game’s first major post-launch DLC, Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, coming in early 2026, along with a brand-new Vault Hunter named C4SH.
Now, Gearbox is back with another big update for Borderlands 4, and this one’s focused mostly on buffs and balance changes. It’s live as of today, Thursday, October 2, and it’s a hefty one. In this article, we’re going over everything in the new patch, including which Vault Hunters are getting upgrades, what fixes are included, what’s still missing, and what’s on the way next.
Borderlands 4 October 2 Update Patch Notes: All Buffs, Fixes, and Nerfs
Gearbox has said today’s update, which is around 1.3 GB, is mostly about Vault Hunter buffs, no major nerfs (at least for now), and no new content drops just yet. It’s all about making underperforming skills and gear feel stronger and more reliable across the board.
We also know that some long-requested UI fixes, like inventory sorting, better trash marking, and smoother bank management, are in the works, but didn’t make it into this patch. According to Gearbox’s Graeme Timmins, they’re still being tested and will be added in a future update.
Now, let’s talk about all the patch notes for the new Borderlands 4 update released today.
Weekly Activities:
- Weekly Big Encore Boss has switched to a tougher variant of a different existing boss with an even more rewarding loot pool for those that take it on.
- The Weekly Wildcard Mission has changed. These missions feature a guaranteed Legendary drop that you can repeatedly earn to get your ideal roll.
- Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine has moved to another location and changed its offerings. Remember, while the location is the same, your vending machine items are different from other players, so ask around to see if someone has the item you’re looking for!
Additional Changes:
- Added auto-clearing of Borderlands 4 stale shaders on version update, preventing performance degradation on some PCs.
