Here’s the complete guide on how to find Tannis on a Fish easter egg in Borderlands 4: exact Fadefields location, correct elemental barrel order, and how to unlock the “Cut That Out” achievement fast.

Borderlands has a long history of silly secrets, and if you’ve played the older games, you probably know about one of the series’ most iconic hidden easter eggs: Tannis on a Fish. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Dr. Patricia Tannis literally riding a giant fish across the water. It’s been hidden in every main Borderlands title so far, and yep, it’s officially back in Borderlands 4.

This time, it’s tied to a beach spot, and if you know where to go and what order to shoot some barrels in, you’ll not only see the scene again, you’ll also unlock a hidden achievement called “Cut That Out.

In this quick guide, we’ll go over exactly where to find the Tannis on a Fish easter egg in Borderlands 4, what barrels to shoot (and in what order), and how to unlock the achievement.

Where to find the Tannis on a Fish easter egg in Borderlands 4

The easter egg is hidden in the Fadefields region of Kairos. Head to Fadefields. Start from the first Crimson Resistance Safe House you capture with Claptrap early in the story. From that safe house, follow the shoreline north-west along the Coastal Bonescape toward The Howl. Keep the water on your left and stick to the edge of the map.

You’re looking for a small beach-view hut or shelter at the coast, between two giant turrets. It’s right on the rim of the playable area, easy to miss if you cut inland. Enemies can wander through here, and there’s sometimes a red chest nearby, but the key thing is the little shelter with the barrels arranged around it.

Right next to the turret by the shelter, you’ll see five elemental barrels, one for each element you expect: Corrosive, Cryo, Incendiary, Shock, and Radiation.

Correct Barrel Order for Tannis on a Fish easter egg

Below is the correct barrel order to shoot them. Fire once at each barrel and let it fully explode before moving to the next. Stand on or near the shelter so you can see the set clearly.

Correct barrel shooting order:

  1. Corrosive
  2. Cryo
  3. Incendiary
  4. Shock
  5. Radiation

Pro tip: Use a weapon that can easily pop each barrel with a single shot (Jakobs or Torgue guns work well). If an enemy accidentally triggers one out of order, just save and reload to reset the barrels.

Pro Tip

Use a weapon that can easily pop each barrel with a single shot. If an enemy accidentally triggers one out of order, just save and reload to reset the barrels.

Once you hit the barrels in the right order, you’ll trigger the full sequence: Tannis suddenly appears, riding a giant fish across the ocean horizon. This time, there’s a fun twist too: Tannis is swiping at a cardboard cutout of Handsome Jack while she rides the fish, which is a great little callback for longtime fans.

How to unlock the “Cut That Out” achievement

The easter egg isn’t just for laughs. If you complete it successfully, you’ll also unlock a hidden achievement called “Cut That Out.” There’s nothing extra you need to do. Just trigger the fish sequence by shooting the barrels in the right order, and the achievement will unlock automatically.

You can repeat the easter egg as many times as you like by saving and quitting, then heading back to the same spot. Handy if you’re showing it to friends in co-op.
