Marathon Gameplay Reveal Coming in 2025, Bungie Confirms

Replying to a comment on YouTube, Bungie has confirmed that the gameplay reveal for Marathon will arrive sometime in 2025: “We’ll have gameplay to show off next year for sure.”

“Marathon is our take on essentially an extraction shooter,” Ziegler explained. One highlight of the video was the introduction of Runner, which essentially confirms The Game Post’s report that the game follows a class-based system rather than pre-defined hero characters.

Ziegler revealed concepts of two Runners, codenamed “Thief” and “Stealth.” Describing Marathon’s unique characters, Ziegler noted that each Runner has abilities and playstyles that make them feel distinct.

“One of the images that’s going to be showing up on this screen is of a Runner that we have in our game. It’s codename is currently ‘Thief,’ which might give you an indication of how it plays,” he shared. Ziegler also hinted at “Stealth,” a Runner that’s all about deception and using stealth tactics.

Bungie has also confirmed that it will be “expanding” the playtests for Marathon in 2025. Fans can wishlist the game now on Steam and PlayStation, with an Xbox wishlist option coming soon.

“We’re looking to add a significant amount of players to each of our milestones as we’re going forward and some of these, big inflections are opportunities for you all to join us,” Ziegler explained.

“We’ll definitely let you know when that happens but if you are interested in following us or learning more or sort of keeping up to date with all the updates that we have, definitely one of the ways you can do that is wishlist us on the storefronts that exist, whether it be Steam on Xbox or on PSN.”
