Bungie has sent out a survey asking Destiny 2 players for their thoughts on the future of the game.

This is following the announcement of Bungie laying off 17% of its workforce—around 220 employees—last week, and reports indicating a major shift in Destiny 2’s content strategy.

According to insiders, Bungie is moving away from annual expansions to smaller, less resource-intensive content packs. This shift has left many fans questioning the long-term future of the game they love.

Many players reported receiving a new survey from Bungie over the weekend, aimed at gathering player feedback on their continued engagement and overall sentiment toward Destiny 2.

Bungie’s New Survey Asks Destiny 2 Players on Future Engagement

One of the questions in the survey asks players, “How likely are you to keep playing Destiny 2 after completing The Final Shape?” This question seems to be gauging whether the most recent expansion, praised by many as the best expansion in Destiny’s history, has enough pull to keep players engaged.

The response options range from “Not at all likely” to “Very likely,” offering a spectrum for players to express their current commitment to the game.

Another question asks fans how they “generally feel about the future of Destiny 2?“. Players are given a scale from 0 to 10 to express their feelings, with 0 meaning “I can’t see a future for D2 that excites me at all” and 10 indicating “I’m extremely excited about the future of D2.”

The survey also includes several other key questions to gauge player satisfaction and engagement:

  • How would you rate your Destiny 2 experience in the past week?
  • How likely is it that you would recommend Destiny 2 to a friend or colleague?
  • How likely are you to play the next season of Destiny 2?
  • How do you feel about the current state of PvP/Crucible in Destiny 2?
  • How satisfied are you with the updates PvP/Crucible currently receives?

The context of these questions cannot be ignored. The layoffs and the shift away from annual expansions are significant changes that have already shaken the community. Bungie’s decision to gather this feedback suggests it is acutely aware of the community’s unease and is possibly looking for ways to reassure or recalibrate based on player sentiment.

According to a recent report from Paul Tassi at Forbes, these new “content packs” seem to be similar in size to Shadowkeep, featuring new destinations, raids, and story campaigns, but on a smaller scale.

The move to smaller content packs could signal a shift towards more sustainable development cycles, allowing less burnout among the development team. However, it also raises questions about the depth and quality of future content, which players have come to expect from the major expansions.
