Destiny 2 has been missing the “Next Week In Destiny” in-game message for months. And now, Bungie has finally responded with an explanation for its sudden removal.
If you’ve been playing Destiny 2 for a while, you probably remember that every Friday we’d get a handy in-game message called ‘Next Week In Destiny.’ This pop-up would list all the major activities for the upcoming week, from featured dungeons and raids to Crucible modes and bonus ranks.
It was a nice way to get an idea of which activities will be entering the weekly rotation next. But ever since August 2024, that banner has been missing. For months, Destiny 2 players have been asking Bungie for the reason behind the missing ‘Next Week In Destiny’ notice.
But despite players raising the issue on social media and forums, there was nothing but radio silence from Bungie. That is, until now.
Bungie’s Response On Destiny 2’s “Next Week In Destiny” Message
In a recent Reddit thread, a player asked what happened to the weekly “Next Week in Destiny” feature every Friday. The post gained traction with nearly a hundred replies. Finally, Dylan Gafner, Bungie’s Global Community Lead, jumped into the conversation to provide some long-awaited answers.
According to Gafner, removing the weekly “Next Week In Destiny” message was a manual update, which meant that if Bungie had to make any last-minute changes to activities, it could mess things up.
In short, it wasn’t an automated feature, which led to some complications behind the scenes. Bungie decided to pull it to avoid any confusion, especially during the launch of the new episodic content.
Here’s what Gafner had to say:
“This was a manual process, sometimes leading to issues if we had to change maps/modes/etc for the following week after the message had already been submitted. We’re continuing to pass along feedback for in-game comms from Bungie.”
Interestingly, in the same Reddit reply, Gafner took the opportunity to ask the community what they’d like to see in terms of bringing back this feature. This opens the door for a more robust in-game notification system, and honestly, it’s something Destiny 2 really needs.
In fact, there have already been some fan-driven concepts floating around, like one from Destiny Bulletin last year that proposed an expanded in-game message hub: A central dashboard not only showcasing the ‘Next Week In Destiny’ banner but also integrating key updates like the weekly TWID (This Week In Destiny) articles, patch notes, and major announcements like seasonal events or hotfixes.
If Bungie took this route, it could vastly improve communication and keep players more informed about what’s happening in the game.
