Destiny 2‘s competitive PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, is set to receive some major updates in the upcoming Edge of Fate expansion.
Destiny 2’s next big expansion, Edge of Fate, is dropping on July 15, and it’s clear that this expansion is bringing some massive systemic changes to the game. Bungie is introducing an entirely new Portal system to help streamline the new player experience. There’s also a new tiered gear system, as well as the armor stats overhaul.
But along with all these PvE-focused updates, Bungie’s turning its attention to PvP, and more specifically, Trials of Osiris, which is getting some interesting changes in Edge of Fate.
Destiny 2 Edge of Fate Trials of Osiris Changes
Earlier today, the official Destiny 2 Team social media account dropped a new update specifically about Trials of Osiris. This post confirms new changes in how the competitive mode will function moving forward.
Starting with Edge of Fate, Trials will no longer be power-enabled. That means your gear’s power level won’t give you a combat advantage anymore. Everyone enters on equal footing, though you’ll still need to hit the new 200 Power minimum just to access it.
The Destiny 2 development team said the change is aimed at making Trials more welcoming without removing its competitive edge. Here’s the full statement they posted:
“Starting with The Edge of Fate, Trials of Osiris will no longer be power enabled. While we will still have a required power level of 200 to enter, combat will not be affected by your Guardian’s power. We hope this makes Trials more approachable to a wider audience while still maintaining a competitive feel through the Passage system, maps, and mode on offer.
“As a final note: Trials access requires ownership of the most recent Destiny 2 expansion; Starting July 15, players will be required to own The Edge of Fate in order to play Trials of Osiris.”
Beyond Trials, Edge of Fate is also bringing updates to exotic weapons, with several getting intrinsic Champion perks and reworked abilities. Exotics like Dead Man’s Tale, Wicked Implement, and Devil’s Ruin are being fine-tuned.
Subclass abilities are getting rebalanced, too. You can check more details about it here.
Bungie seems to be clearing out a lot of the old systems and trying to make Destiny 2 more accessible to new players, which was always one of the biggest pain points for the game.
