Destiny 2’s devoted fanbase finds itself divided once again after Bungie announced the release date for The Final Shape’s new raid which is launching earlier than most players expected.

Scheduled just three days after the expansion’s release, the new raid in The Final Shape is set to launch on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 10 AM PT. This decision has triggered a wave of frustration and disappointment among players.

Many fans took to forums and social media platforms to voice their concerns. One player expressed skepticism, questioning whether the power grind had evolved enough to accommodate such a tight timeline.

“Unless the power grind has changed and that prismatic unlocks isn’t heavily time-gated (be it locked or resource intensive) this change sucks,” replied one Reddit user on the DestinyTheGame subreddit.

Another user echoed the sentiment, lamenting the lack of preparation time for tackling the new raid content. “Having less than 4 days to get raid-ready after the DLC launches is gonna suck,” they remarked.

The consensus among fans seems to be that the release of the Final Shape raid leaves little room for exploration and experimentation with new builds as the expansion is set to bring major updates to many weapons and abilities, in addition to leveling up the artifact for its perks which can also take a lot of time for casual players.

Earlier this month, Bungie revealed a brand-new subclass for The Final Shape called Prismatic. This subclass will enable players to combine abilities from both Light and Darkness subclasses, resulting in more varied build options.

Another expressed their frustration, stating, “I’m sorry but scheduling the TFS [The Final Shape] raid drop day for only three days (if the servers fully cooperate) after the expansion drops is so disappointing. Lots of teams have had this event circled for one final day 1 push in the saga’s ultimate raid… and now it’s just not feasible.”

It’s possible that Bungie released the new raid early to pave the way for the first episode called “Echoes,” which will come out sometime after The Final Shape. During a community summit last year, Bungie revealed that Echoes can’t launch until after The Final Shape story has ended. This means that Bungie has to conclude The Final Shape’s story by the end of the first week to release episode one, Echoes.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is set to launch on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
