Destiny 2 players can now claim free weekly Bright Dust for nine weeks as Bungie responds to issues with the new Pathfinder system introduced in The Final Shape expansion.
With the launch of The Final Shape, Destiny 2’s latest annual expansion, Bungie introduced a new system called Pathfinder, with the goal to replace the old bounty system. Instead of collecting and completing bounties from ritual vendors, players now tackle a series of objectives and challenges to earn their weekly Powerful rewards.

However, after the launch in June, players quickly pointed out that this new system is way more grindy with fewer Bright Dust offerings, compared to the previous bounty system.
Now, with the release of the annual Solstice event this week, Bungie released a statement addressing the concerns around the Pathfinder system and announced in-game compensation for players.

Bungie’s global community lead for Destiny 2, Dylan Gafner (dmg04), shared the news on X (Twitter) yesterday that Destiny 2 players will receive 350 free Bright Dust every week for the next nine weeks, totaling 3,150 Bright Dust. “Weekly free Bright Dust starts this week. 350 a week for nine weeks,” said Gafner.
Shortly after posting this update on X (Twitter), Gafner replied to a Reddit thread in the DestinyTheGame subreddit with additional details about this decision. You can read the full response below.
“We’ll have more details in the TWID for the what and the why. Specifically: Players aren’t earning as much Bright Dust as we expected under the new Pathfinder system released with The Final Shape
“We wanted to get ahead of this and issue a make good to get folks caught up as there were no intentions of reducing XP or Bright Dust earn rates. Had the comms planned for last week, but delay pushed us out.
“We’re working on some Pathfinder feedback to help earn rates in the future, but we don’t have exact details just yet on execution.”
Destiny 2 players have been very vocal about this new system. One Reddit user said, “Bungie if your plan was to use the terrible new Ritual Pathfinder to increase my playtime and reduce my bright dust, you accomplished one of these.”
Another user replied, “This system alone convinced me that Bungie learned nothing this last year. It’s such an obvious convoluted bright dust nerf.” For now, fans can look forward to a steady stream of free Bright Dust, providing some relief as Bungie works on refining the Pathfinder system.
