Destiny 2’s game director Tyson Green has shed some light on the future of Destiny 2 after The Final Shape; he says it will be the “beginning of something new.”

Earlier today, Bungie released the launch trailer for Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion, The Final Shape. The new trailer sets the stage for the grand finale of Destiny’s Light and Darkness saga that started back in 2014 with Destiny 1’s release.

However, ever since the announcement of The Final Shape, Bungie has been tight-lipped about what the future of Destiny 2, and Destiny in general, looks like with no concrete details on what’s coming after The Final Shape, that be the continuation of the yearly expansions or a new game in the franchise.

Destiny 2 Game Director Says The Final Shape Is The Beginning Of “Something New”

During a recent preview event for The Final Shape, Destiny 2 game director Tyson Green talked about the expansion, and its raid, saying that players will have a “better sense for where the future of Destiny goes” after the conclusion of The Final Shape’s raid, which launches three days after the expansion’s release on Friday, June 7.

According to PCGamesN, while acknowledging the challenges of closing a ten-year story arc, Green reassured fans that Bungie is committed to delivering a satisfying conclusion while also setting the stage for new adventures. “There’s a lot going into closing those threads but also into keeping this game going. It’s not, by any stretch, the end of Destiny,” he explained.

This dual focus ensures that while The Final Shape will wrap up significant elements of the current storyline, it will also introduce new threats and story arcs that will be developed throughout the following year.

“We want it to feel a little bit sad, like endings often do,” he said. “We want it to feel like a good ending, but the beginning of something new.”

This isn’t the first time Bungie has teased the future of Destiny 2 after The Final Shape. During The Final Shape’s gameplay preview, Destiny’s executive creative director Luke Smith said: “Facing the Witness is not the end of Destiny 2, and it’s definitely not the end of Destiny. After you face the Witness, we’re going to tell you what’s coming next to Destiny 2…and beyond.”
