Destiny 2’s highly anticipated The Final Shape expansion has been leaked a full four days ahead of its official release.

This major leak appears to have originated from Sony’s PlayStation cloud streaming service. According to reports, players were able to access the expansion early, sharing unreleased images of new content, including weapons, armor, and cosmetics.

Update, May 30, 9:44 am PT: Bungie has shared an official statement regarding The Final Shape’s leaks via the Destiny 2 Team X account, saying some players were able to “play some of the campaign, access Collections, and other reward info coming in The Final Shape, and Echoes.” Full statement below:

“Earlier today, a portion of Destiny 2: The Final Shape was accidentally pushed live on PS5’s streaming service. There are currently spoilers being shared online. A small group of players were able to play some of the campaign, access Collections, and other reward info coming in The Final Shape, and Echoes.

“We recommend being very careful on social media over the next few days to avoid spoilers. Remember to exercise caution and be critical of potential misinformation. “Please be considerate of others and report leaks so players can experience the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga themselves.

“Thanks to all our community members who have already helped us by reporting leaks and those actively working to prevent more of the experience from being shared before its intended date. It’s always extremely difficult when our team’s hard work is leaked early, but we are still excited for everyone to experience the full release on June 4 together.”

Original Story: While the general public became aware of the leaked early access at around 11 PM Pacific yesterday, some players were already exploring the expansion for at least 5-6 hours before that.

One of the players who reached out to Destiny Bulletin yesterday evening shared some of the images and revealed that their account was completely reset upon booting up the early access build for The Final Shape. Starting from scratch, they lost all previous progress and were taken directly into Season 24.

Shortly after the initial leak, social media platforms were flooded with significant story-related spoilers and unreleased content.

According to SteamDB, Bungie appears to have pushed The Final Shape update to Steam’s backend servers (and probably other platforms) around 3 PM Pacific yesterday. This might coincide with Sony’s accidental push to their live cloud streaming servers at the same time.

While the majority of players who were able to access The Final Shape early weren’t able to progress beyond the first mission due to server shutdowns, reports indicate that some players managed to delve deeper into the campaign.

As of now, Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2, has not issued an official response to the leak. The premature release has stirred up mixed reactions among the player base, with some eager to dive into the new content and others disappointed by the spoilers.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is set to release on June 4, 2024, on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
