However, what should have been a triumphant moment for Bungie and its player base has quickly turned into a frustrating experience due to severe server issues. As a result, Steam reviews for the expansion have plummeted from positive to “Mostly Negative,” primarily due to these server-related issues.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape Launch Plagued by Server Errors

According to SteamDB, The Final Shape expansion initially launched with an impressive 80% positive reviews, reflecting the excitement and high expectations of the player base. However, this positive reception was short-lived, as the persistent server issues plagued the gaming experience.

As players encountered repeated disruptions and missed key story moments, frustration grew, leading to a dramatic shift in sentiment. Currently, the expansion holds a dismal 32% positive rating on Steam, categorized as “Mostly Negative.”

Many took to Steam to voice their concerns, highlighting that while they appreciate the story direction and content of The Final Shape, the server instability has overshadowed their enjoyment.

One review said, “This DLC launch is like watching Avenger Endgame but it buffers every minute. Missed several cut scenes already one which I can’t view again.” Another user wrote, “I’ve been trying to play this for 7 hours now, and I can’t go more than 20 minutes without being kicked from the game due to error codes.”

It’s worth noting that this wave of criticism is focused primarily on the server issues rather than the story content itself. This is a marked difference from the reception of the previous expansion, Lightfall, where the narrative faced significant criticism.

In contrast, many have praised The Final Shape’s engaging story, character development, the overall direction of the plot, and the new Prismatic subclass, which was one of the highlights of this expansion.

Despite the positive reception of the storyline, the server problems have taken center stage. Bungie has acknowledged these issues and is working to resolve them, but the damage to the expansion’s initial reception has already been done.

Destiny 2 The Final Shape is live on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
