Wondering how to get the Buggy in Dune: Awakening? Here’s a simple guide that breaks down all the materials and components you need to craft this vehicle.

Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO set on the deadly planet of Arrakis. It blends open-world exploration with tough survival mechanics like managing water, building a base, and crafting better gear. As you progress, you’ll come across a wide range of items, everything from basic weapons and armor to tech-based gadgets and advanced refiners.

But vehicles are where things start to get really interesting. There’s the Sandbike, your first shot at traversing across the vast desert. Then there’s the Ornithopter, which lets you fly across the map. But between these two, there’s another vehicle: the Buggy. It might not fly, but it will really help with gathering resources.

In this article, we’re going to walk you through exactly how to unlock and craft your Buggy in Dune: Awakening.

How to Unlock and Craft the Buggy

Before you can craft your Buggy, you’ll need to meet a few basic requirements. This isn’t something you’ll get in your first hour of play, it takes a bit of setup. But once you unlock it, the Buggy becomes your go-to for farming resources like Copper, Iron, Aluminum, and Fuel Cells way faster than doing it by hand.

Step 1: Reach the Steel Research Tier

The Buggy becomes available once you’ve reached the Steel Products tier in your research. You’ll need to unlock:

  • The Buggy itself
  • The Buggy Cutteray
  • The Buggy Storage Unit

You can get the Intel Points needed by visiting as many outposts on the map as you can. You don’t have to fight anything, just get close enough to grab the intel. Use a shield if you need to survive a few hits, and you’ll be fine even without armor.

Step 2: Set Up Your Crafting Stations

Once you’ve unlocked the Buggy research, you’ll need a proper place to craft it. The main thing required is a Vehicle Fabricator. You can build this using Steel Ingots and Complex Machinery. Steel Ingots can be crafted using materials like Iron Ore and Carbon Ore found all over the map. For Complex Machinery, try searching for shipwrecks, there’s a high chance these will have Complex Machinery parts in them.

You’ll also want to have a Chemical Refinery set up later to produce things like Cobalt Paste and Fuel, which are used in some of the Buggy’s components.

Vehicle Fabricator requires:

  • Steel Ingots x40
  • Complex Machinery x30

Step 3: Start Building Buggy Components

To build the Buggy, you’ll need to gather several specific parts, each made with different materials. The Chassis is the core part of the Buggy. To craft this, you’ll need several different materials. These are: Steel Ingots, Advanced Servoks, Cobalt Paste, and Water.

Here’s how to get each of these:

  • Steel Ingots: You can create Steel Ingots at the Small Ore Refinery using Carbon Ore, Iron Ingot, and Water.
  • Advanced Servoks: Advanced Servoks can be found in Imperial Testing Stations and random chests across the map.
  • Cobalt Paste: You can create Cobalt Paste at the Small Ore Refinery using Erythrite Crystals and Water.
  • Water: You can get water from enemy corpses, Dews, and Stillsuits.

Other required parts include the Buggy Hull, Engine, Treads, Power Supply Unit (PSU), and Buggy Rear. Make sure the rear section you craft is the Utility Rear version, as the standard one won’t work properly. The Engine also needs Particle Capacitors, which are available at old Imperial Testing Stations.

Crafting the Cutteray and Storage Unit

The Buggy’s Cutteray is what truly sets it apart. This mining tool is mounted on the top of the vehicle and allows you to gather resources at a much faster rate than a handheld cutter. To build it, you’ll need:

  • Steel Ingot x30
  • Particle Capacitor x25
  • Cobalt Paste x17
  • Holtzman Actuator x23
  • Water x200

Holtzman Actuators drop from shipwrecks that occasionally fall from the sky. These are random events, so keep an eye out for them while exploring. You’ll also want to install a Storage Unit on the Buggy, which gives you more space to carry resources and cuts down on trips back to your base.

Refueling and Protecting Your Buggy

The Buggy runs on Vehicle Fuel Cells. You can craft them at the Small Chemical Refinery. The difference in fuel collection is huge, depending on how you gather it. If you use a handheld cutter, you’ll only get around 90 units from each pack. With the Buggy’s cutter, you can get over 400 units from the same pack. There are several Fuel Cell spawn points along a basic mining route that covers Iron, Carbon, and Aluminum areas. Pick them up on your way between nodes to keep your fuel stocked up.

Make sure to always store your Buggy inside your base. Vehicles left outside are exposed to sandstorms and will start to decay over time. When you check the vehicle menu, you’ll see it marked as “At Risk” if it’s outside. Once parked inside, it’ll be marked as “Safe,” and you won’t have to worry about damage from the weather.
