Bungie is giving every Destiny 2 player 777,777 free Unstable Cores. Here’s how to claim them before they’re gone.

If you’ve played Destiny 2 after the Edge of Fate launch, you’ve probably noticed that Unstable Cores have become a big part of upgrading your gear. They’re used in infusion once you pass the soft Power cap, and many players have struggled to keep enough of them around, especially at higher Power levels where the costs skyrocket.

That’s all changing soon. Bungie has officially confirmed that Unstable Cores are being removed entirely in a future update. The studio says the currency has become “too restrictive” and doesn’t really encourage meaningful buildcrafting. Instead, infusion will go back to using Enhancement Cores and Glimmer only.

But before Unstable Cores disappear for good, Bungie is sending them off with a massive giveaway. Bungie’s handing out a free stack of 777,777 Unstable Cores to everyone. But it’s not permanent; you’ll only have a limited window to claim them.

In this guide, we’ll go over how to claim your 777,777 free Unstable Cores in Destiny 2 right now.

How to Claim 777,777 Free Unstable Cores in Destiny 2

To get your free 777,777 Unstable Cores, you need to head to the Tower Courtyard and make your way to where Commander Zavala is located. Right beside him, you’ll see a new chest called the TechSec Supply Drop. This reward is one-time per account and, per the in-game prompt, can be claimed until the end of Season 27.

Interact with the chest. You’ll first see a confirmation screen with a prompt “Caution” asking you to accept the offering. Accepting opens a new screen where you can immediately claim 777,777 free Unstable Cores.

The item tooltip notes these expire at the end of the Season, which is December 1, 2025, so plan to spend them soon. The Supply Drop also includes a full catch-up gear package, weapons for each slot, and all armor pieces, to bring your Power up to 300, plus 10 free Enhancement Cores.

That’s it. There’s no quest, no requirement, no limit based on account history. Every single player gets the same reward.

If you’ve been holding off on leveling up your favorite weapons or armor, now’s the time. Bungie also reduced infusion costs at higher power levels in today’s update.

Alongside the Unstable Core update, Bungie also confirmed another big change for the upcoming expansion, Destiny 2: Renegades, launching December 2, 2025. Originally, the plan was to reset the Seasonal Power when Renegades arrived, but that’s no longer happening.

Your Seasonal Power Level will carry over into Renegades, which means you won’t have to start over at 200 when the expansion hits.
