A new leak claims Resident Evil Requiem will be Leon Kennedy’s “last major role” in the timeline, with more story details set to be revealed at Gamescom 2025.

It’s been a while since Capcom officially pulled the curtain back on Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the series, and the excitement hasn’t slowed down. Announced during Summer Game Fest 2025, the game is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Players will step into the shoes of Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst investigating mysterious deaths in the Wrenwood Hotel, a location tied to her own past, and, according to leaks, longtime series icon Leon S. Kennedy.

Not only does the game let you switch between first-person and third-person, but it’s also said to have a heavier narrative focus, with Leon and Grace both taking on key roles. The next big look at the game is coming very soon.

Capcom will be showing Resident Evil Requiem at Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19. Now, a new rumor from a well-known Resident Evil insider has given us some new details about what might be in store for Leon this time around.

Leon’s “Last Major Role” in Resident Evil Requiem?

The information comes from Dusk Golem (also known as AestheticGamer), a reliable source for Resident Evil leaks, who posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the game’s story direction. They claim that part of Requiem’s whole “Long Awaited Endings & New Beginnings” theme is tied to Leon’s future in the series.

The leaker claims that Leon will still appear in other media and earlier timeline stories, but in terms of the main series, this could be his last big role. They also believe that when all is said and done, this game will feel like Leon’s send-off.

“As far as I know, part of RE9‘s whole ‘Long Awaited Endings & New Beginnings’ stuff is supposed [to] be Leon’s last major role in the timeline (sure he’ll still pop up in CG movies & earlier timeline stuff), so you got that to look forward to with Resident Evil Requiem then,” the post reads.

“Leon & Grace are the main protagonists of Resident Evil Requiem, yes. I am repeating myself a bit there, but will end up being the case. Both play big roles, but I think when all is said & done, this in many ways will come off more as Leon’s send-off game.”

They clarified that they don’t know exactly what happens to Leon, but they can imagine the character simply deciding he’s done with this line of work after the events of the game, though this has also led many to speculate that he might be dying in the game.

“I truly don’t know his fate or the ending of RE9, just the circumstances surrounding it. I actually almost picture him being all, ‘I’m getting too old for this & more than earned my retirement’ after the events of RE9. To see how Capcom plays it.”

Dusk Golem also mentioned when the press will be allowed to share their hands-on impressions and coverage. According to them, the embargo for Resident Evil Requiem will lift the day after Gamescom 2025’s showcase, that’s August 20th.

“Resident Evil Requiem has a new showing at Gamescom Opening Night on the 19th, then a media embargo for press lifting on the 20th, then it’ll be at Tokyo Game Show next month too.”

As always, it’s worth remembering that nothing here is official until Capcom confirms it. Leaks can be based on incomplete or outdated information, and plans sometimes change before release. So, we suggest taking everything with a grain of salt.
