Leaked images reportedly show Ubisoft’s new project, a sci-fi competitive first-person shooter codenamed Project Scout, said to be in early development with Unreal Engine 5.

Ubisoft has been going through a pretty big transition lately. After restructuring earlier this year and finalizing a major deal with Tencent, where the Chinese tech giant took a 25% stake in a newly formed Ubisoft subsidiary, the publisher has been trying to refocus its efforts on a smaller number of sustainable, long-term projects.

The deal with Tencent carved out some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six, now under the newly formed subsidiary.

It’s a move that follows months of internal reshuffling, layoffs, and project cancellations. In 2020, the company released a free-to-play first-person shooter battle royale called Hyper Scape. This title was later shut down in 2022. Similarly, the company released another free-to-play first-person shooter called XDefiant in 2024. The game was shut down earlier this year in June.

Even so, Ubisoft doesn’t seem to be stepping away from competitive shooters entirely. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the studio was quietly working on an unannounced competitive shooter that takes heavy inspiration from EA‘s Apex Legends. Now, new leaks may have given us our first look at this mysterious project.

New Ubisoft Shooter Reportedly Called “Project Scout”

Earlier today, well-known Rainbow Six Siege leaker Shiiny77 posted on X that Ubisoft is developing a brand-new competitive first-person shooter. According to their post, the game takes place in an intense sci-fi setting, is large-scale, and features full cross-play between platforms. Shiiny also claimed the project is “possibly” being built in Unreal Engine 5.

A few hours later, another X user known as 6leaksgg shared two images supposedly tied to the same project. Their post referred to it as “Project Scout,” described as an upcoming sci-fi competitive FPS from Ubisoft built with Unreal Engine 5 and offering cross-platform support. The attached images appear to come from very early in-engine builds.

The first leaked image shows what appears to be a loading or title screen, with the words “Project Scout” displayed over a vast futuristic landscape with a tall spire rising in the distance, neon skies, and robotic machinery in the foreground. A mechanical character can be seen in the foreground, along with on-screen debug text mentioning “keep loading screen up for additional 2.00 seconds to allow texture streaming” and a tagline that reads, “All risk, all reward.”

The second image looks more like an early gameplay screenshot, a first-person view with a visible weapon named The Bulldog, ability icons, a purple “Starlight Energy” meter, weapon slots, crew level, compass, and a minimap in the corner. The environment itself appears to be in a greybox or early testing phase, featuring colorful placeholder structures and basic lighting.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Ubisoft, and the screenshots could represent an early concept or internal test build rather than an active project. As always, it’s best to take these claims with a grain of salt until something official is announced.
