Former Destiny composer Michael Salvatori appears to be back on the soundtrack for Destiny 2, according to new behind-the-scenes studio images shared online.
Over the last couple of years, Destiny 2 fans have watched Bungie’s legendary music team go through some rough changes. Back in late 2023, the studio laid off a huge number of employees, including some of the creative talent behind Destiny’s iconic soundtracks.
This wave of layoffs hit the audio team especially hard, with veterans like Michael Salvatori and Michael Sechrist among those let go. Then, in early 2024, another big name, Skye Lewin, left the company.
Fast forward to July 2025, and Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate expansion dropped with a soundtrack by four main composers: Rotem Moav, Pieter Schlosser, Brendon Williams, and Josh Mosser. While fans enjoyed the new music, some felt that a piece of the “classic Destiny sound” was missing.
But now, it looks like a fan favorite might be making a return just in time for the next big expansion.
Studio Images Hint at Michael Salvatori’s Return For New Destiny 2 Soundtrack
The latest clue comes straight from social media. Earlier today, both Pieter Schlosser and orchestrator Ella Feingold shared Instagram stories from a recording session at Ocean Way Nashville Studios, where Bungie usually records new Destiny music.
In Schlosser’s photos, we can spot score sheets from the studio that list out the composers and orchestrators working on new Destiny music. One image, in particular, shows “Michael Salvatori – Composer” right next to “Ella Feingold – Orchestrator,” with the overlay text: “Not to brag, but I get to work with these two legends.”
That alone is a pretty strong sign that Salvatori is back in action, writing new music for Destiny 2. Other photos also show names like Brendon Williams and Josh Mosser, both credited for the most recent expansion, working alongside the team.
Based on the timing, location, and people involved, it’s very likely these sessions are for Destiny 2’s next expansion, Renegades, which is set to launch in December 2025. At the time of writing, Bungie hasn’t officially announced Salvatori’s return just yet.
