Bungie has revealed Marathon’s Cryo Archive release date, entry requirements, and new endgame details after players solved the latest ARG.
Bungie’s Marathon has been building a lot of attention thanks to its mix of extraction shooter action, PvPvE fights, and the mystery around Tau Ceti IV. But one of the biggest talking points lately has been Cryo Archive, the endgame zone that has been teased as having Destiny 2-style raid content because of its puzzle-heavy design, team coordination, and layered mechanics.
For the past couple of days, Marathon players have been busy working through Bungie’s latest ARG, chasing clues, solving terminal puzzles, and trying to unlock the next big secret.
Earlier today, they finally cracked it, and Bungie followed that up with a new Cryo Archive reveal, confirming that the map is almost here and giving players their clearest look yet at what to expect.
Marathon Cryo Archive release date and time
Bungie has confirmed that Cryo Archive opens on Friday, March 20. That works out to 1 PM ET, and 5 PM GMT. The studio said players have “less than a day to prepare yourself to take on the end-game zone aboard the UESC Marathon,” with the countdown now ticking toward launch.
What Cryo Archive is and how it works
Cryo Archive is the first deck of the UESC Marathon, an abandoned colony ship hanging in orbit. Bungie describes it as a brutal endgame activity with six connected wings and one central hub, where teams move back and forth searching for loot, solving mechanics, and trying to survive both enemy crews and the ship’s defenses.
According to Bungie: “Cryo Archive is a pinnacle challenge and will take many runs to learn and master.” The studio also says players should think of it as “raid-style puzzle solving and layered mechanics wrapped around brutal extraction stakes.“
Marathon Cryo Archive Entry requirements and key systems
To enter the Cryo Archive, players need:
- Runner Level 25
- All six factions unlocked
- A minimum loadout value of 5,000 credits
Bungie also confirmed that this is not an extra cost, just the value of the gear you have equipped. Players who qualify will get a one-time Sponsored Kit with blue-tier gear to help with early runs.
Marathon Cryo Archive Security Clearance and Vaults Explained
Another major system is Security Clearance, which you build during a run. It controls access to doors, supply rooms, and exfils. On top of that, the zone includes seven Vaults, each with its own rules, key requirements, and high-value rewards, including unique gold weapons and other rare loot.
Cryo Archive will only be open on weekends, and Bungie says there are still more secrets hidden inside the ship. Watch the Cryo Archive launch trailer below.
