Monster Hunter Wilds players have found a typo in the game’s configuration file, and fixing it might actually improve FPS and textures.

Monster Hunter Wilds had one of the biggest launches of the year, pulling in a staggering 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam at its peak. Fans were excited to jump into Capcom’s next big title, and for many, the gameplay has been everything they hoped for. But for PC players, the experience has been… frustrating, to say the least.

From day one, performance issues have plagued the game. Reports of crashes, stuttering, low frame rates, and strange texture pop-ins flooded social media and Steam reviews. Players with high-end GPUs like the RTX 4090 were baffled by the inconsistent performance.

As a result, Monster Hunter Wilds currently sits at a “Mixed” rating on Steam, with thousands of users complaining that the game runs poorly even on powerful setups.

A Typo Might Be Hurting Monster Hunter Wilds Performance on PC

Just when players thought they’d seen it all, someone found an entirely unexpected issue: a typo in the game’s configuration file might be messing with performance. This was first shared by a Steam user named BeepBoop, which was later posted on the Monster Hunter subreddit.

According to BeepBoop, there’s a misspelling in the config.ini file located in the game’s installation folder (steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds). Instead of “Resolution,” the file contains “Resoltuion.” While this might seem like a tiny mistake, fixing it reportedly improved performance for some players.

In the post, BeepBoop claimed that after correcting the typo, their frame rate jumped from 120 FPS to 140 FPS (with Frame Generation enabled). Others tested it and had mixed results:

  • One player said they saw a 10% FPS increase at 4K with DLSS Quality on an RTX 4090.
  • Another claimed their FPS went from ~45 to ~60 without Frame Generation.
  • One person called it “insane” and reported a 30-40 FPS boost.
  • But not everyone saw an improvement. Some said it made no difference at all.

We checked our own config.ini file, and sure enough, the typo is there. Interestingly, some users believe the typo might have messed up texture streaming rather than just FPS. A few players noted that textures loaded in better and GPU usage became more stable after fixing it.

One even said their memory usage dropped, allowing them to keep high-texture settings without major pop-in issues. It’s still unclear exactly how much impact this typo has, but the community is actively testing it.

Additionally, players also report that changing two additional settings in the config.ini file helped improve performance significantly:

ParallelBuildProcessorCount=16
RenderWorkerThreadPriorityAboveNormal=Enable

Originally, the first value was set to 8, and the second was set to false. After tweaking these settings on an Intel Core i9-13900K and RTX 3090, they noticed a big jump in FPS, bringing them closer to 60 FPS most of the time with DLSS set to Quality.

Capcom has been aware of PC performance issues and recently addressed the issues in a support thread on the official website. However, it hasn’t specifically commented on the config typo.

It’s unclear whether this typo is something Capcom will patch or if it’s just an odd coincidence that changing it improves performance for some players. But given the growing reports of FPS gains and texture improvements, it might be worth fixing manually for now.

So, if you’re struggling with performance in Monster Hunter Wilds, try checking your config file and correcting “Resoltuion” to “Resolution,” it just might help.
