NetEase is issuing DMCA takedowns against Destiny: Rising datamining and model rips, targeting forums and modding communities

Destiny: Rising, NetEase’s mobile looter shooter, which launched back in August, recently held its first major raid race, Eclipse. Not long after, a series of leaks began popping up online, hinting at several upcoming characters. One of the standout names is Helhest, a support-type Lightbearer with a healing drone. This leak was later confirmed by NetEase when the developer officially revealed the character.

On top of that, there’s been talk about Destiny Rising’s early performance. According to mobile analytics tracked by Naavik and Sensor Tower, the game pulled in around $9 million in revenue and 2 million downloads within its first 20 days. While that’s not small, some analysts say it’s modest by NetEase’s usual standards.

Now, it appears NetEase is cracking down on Destiny: Rising leaks and asset extraction. A modding forum has reportedly been hit with a DMCA notice, and a Discord server that shared game assets just announced it’s banning any such content going forward.

NetEase Issues DMCA Over Destiny Rising Decryption Tools, Model Rips

The news came from a post in the Destiny Model Rips Discord server (where fans share model files, textures, and related assets), where a moderator confirmed that the server will no longer allow Destiny Rising assets or extraction tools to be shared, at least for now. This is because NetEase issued a DMCA notice, which didn’t target the server directly, but rather a separate forum called ResHax.com.

According to the message shared by the mod, NetEase’s legal team contacted ResHax and requested takedowns of posts that outlined methods for decrypting Destiny Rising’s resource packages, along with already-decrypted content like images and audio files. The publisher argued that these posts expose confidential materials from the game’s build and cause “substantial harm to our legitimate interests.”

“Following a DMCA from NetEase, we will not be allowing any assets or extraction tools for Destiny Rising to be posted in the server for the foreseeable future,” the post reads. “The DMCA was not on the Google Drive, but an external forum, ResHax.com.”

And here’s the statement attributed to NetEase:

“We recently discovered that your website, ResHax.com, hosts posts that disclose methods to decrypt our game’s encrypted resource package and, in some instances, share already-decrypted materials. Our resources, including images, audio, and in-game assets, are encrypted precisely to prevent unauthorized extraction and use.

“By publishing decryption steps and disseminating decrypted assets, these posts allow third parties to reproduce, distribute, and misuse our copyrighted materials without authorization and disseminating unpublished confidential information within our build, thereby causing substantial harm to our legitimate interests.”

The datamined leak also revealed three other unannounced characters: Jaren Ward, Maru, and Rossi-11.
