A new Sony Santa Monica job listing strongly suggests that another third-person God of War project might be in development, adding weight to recent reports.
The God of War franchise hasn’t exactly gone quiet in 2025. Between Amazon committing to two seasons of the live-action show and a steady stream of reports about what’s next for the games, fans have had plenty to talk about. The TV side is moving, showrunner Ronald D. Moore said Amazon has already ordered two seasons, with work underway in the writers’ room.
On the game side, reports suggest multiple things may be cooking. We’ve heard reports from industry insiders that a smaller, Greek-era side project with Kratos is in development (not a remaster), while a separate update said that project has been internally pushed to 2026.
And now there’s a new update: a Senior Combat Designer job listing (spotted by The Game Post) that adds more fuel to the ongoing rumors.
New God of War Game Seemingly in Development, Job Listing Teases
The new job ad was posted on the Sony PlayStation’s greenhouse page last week on Friday. It’s a contract role for a Senior Combat Designer who will “design and implement Enemy and Boss characters”.
“You will assist, collaborate with, and take direction from Lead Combat Designers and Directors as needed to take various characters from concept to implementation completion,” the listing reads. “You will also work with multiple disciplines including Animation, Level Design, Character Art, Vis Dev, Encounters, etc. in ensuring that characters are cohesively executed in game.”
Where this listing gets interesting is the experience it asks for. Candidates must be able to discuss, “in depth, combat systems, mechanics, and enemies in one or more 3rd person melee action RPGs.” That aligns with the third-person combat Santa Monica Studio is known for.
More telling is the Preferred Experience line that name-checks the last two entries in the series: “Candidates who are fluent with the combat design choices, systems, mechanics, and enemies in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022).” That explicit callout is the strongest hint that the team is staffing up on talent for a project that’s related to the God of War series.
In the same Preferred Experience section, the listing also calls for “experience with the full development cycle of two or more published triple-A titles.” That kind of requirement points to a large-scale production aiming for high quality. If this role is indeed tied to God of War, it hints that the next project would potentially be AAA in scope.
Put together, this doesn’t confirm a new game by itself, but it does add credible weight to earlier reports that Santa Monica Studio is working on another God of War game. As always, it’s smart to keep expectations in check until Sony makes anything official, especially given the side project’s reported timeline shift to 2026.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier indicated that the studio’s next major game under Cory Barlog isn’t sci-fi and isn’t a brand-new IP, and that whatever the studio ships next could still feel fresh while staying rooted in familiar territory.
