Fans thought a new GTA 6 trailer was on the horizon after a YouTube playlist update, but it turns out this was likely a bug.
It’s hard to find a game more highly anticipated than Grand Theft Auto 6. After years of speculation and leaks, Rockstar finally gave fans a taste of what’s to come with the first trailer, which premiered on December 5, 2023.
Almost a year later, as December 2024 rolls around, excitement is at an all-time high. Many are eagerly hoping for a second trailer to drop soon. Earlier today, a glimmer of hope sparked in the community when fans noticed something unusual on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube.
A playlist titled “Untitled Playlist,” containing only the original GTA 6 trailer 1, was labeled as “Updated Today.” This led to widespread speculation that Rockstar might be preparing to release the long-awaited second trailer.
But as quickly as the rumors spread, they were debunked.
GTA 6 Playlist Update Likely a YouTube Glitch
While the excitement was palpable, a Reddit user named “Gogsi123” on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit offered an explanation. According to their findings, the “Updated Today” tag isn’t an intentional move by Rockstar Games. Instead, it’s caused by “some weird behavior” in YouTube’s embed system.
“The YouTube embed on [Rockstar’s official GTA 6 page] has the playlist ID parameter set to the video ID,” Reddit user “Gogsi123” explained. “This triggers some weird behavior in YouTube causing it to create a playlist containing the video that always says ‘Updated today.'”
“The playlist isn’t ‘real’, it doesn’t have a creator (like all other playlists) and its ID on the playlist page changes every day or so – YT seems to regenerate it, causing it to be updated ‘today.'”
This isn’t the first time the said “playlist” was spotted by fans with the “Updated Today” tag. In fact, it’s been happening since at least February 2024, when the user debunked it.
Despite the disappointment, there’s still hope on the horizon. Take-Two Interactive’s recent earnings report reaffirmed that GTA 6 is on track for a fall 2025 release, though rumors persist about a possible delay to 2026.
With that timeline in mind, it’s reasonable to expect Rockstar to release a second trailer sooner rather than later. While today’s playlist update wasn’t what fans hoped for, the next big reveal might not be far off.
