A new Destiny 2 perk bug is making players lose DPS without realizing it.
Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy launched earlier this month on February 4, bringing new Hive-themed storylines, The Nether activity, and plenty of loot for players to unlock. As part of the new content, players got access to the Tablet of Ruin, this season’s artifact, which introduced several new perks.
One of the most notable additions is Particle Reconstruction, a perk that buffs Fusion Rifles and Linear Fusion Rifles by partially refilling the magazine and increasing damage when dealing sustained damage.
Sounds great, right? Well, not so fast. Since launch, players have noticed that this perk isn’t working quite as intended. A detailed investigation by the Destiny data expert CourtProjects has revealed multiple issues with how the perk interacts with other buffs and debuffs. And now, a newly discovered issue is actively hurting DPS.
Destiny 2 Particle Reconstruction Perk Bug
Shortly after Episode Heresy dropped, CourtProjects looked into how Particle Reconstruction was functioning in real scenarios. The perk is supposed to apply a debuff to enemies, increasing Fusion Rifle and Linear Fusion Rifle damage by up to ~28%. However, things weren’t working consistently at launch.
At first, the debuff stacked with regular weaken effects but not with Tether or Tractor Cannon, which was already unusual. Further testing showed that certain weapons like Arbalest, Jotunn’s burn effect, Vex Mythoclast’s Linear Fusion mode, and weapons with Chill Clip active, couldn’t properly apply the perk’s effects. Thankfully, Bungie pushed a fix addressing those problems, making the perk work as expected in most cases.
But now, a new issue has been found by players 360GameTV and Sage. If you’re using Divinity (that weakens enemies by 15%), a very common exotic used in endgame activities like raids, dungeons, and Grandmaster Nightfalls, it will completely override the Particle Reconstruction debuff of ~28%.
This means that instead of getting a higher damage boost, you’re getting a lower one, which is actively reducing DPS when using Fusion Rifles or LFRs with Divinity.
Here’s a breakdown of the damage numbers:
- Base damage: 32,021
- Base damage with Divinity (15%): 36,824
- Particle Reconstruction max damage (27.6%): 40,686
- Particle Reconstruction + Divinity: 36,824 (meaning Divinity is overriding the perk’s full damage boost)
Update: Divinity's weaken (15%) is currently overriding Particle Reconstruction's debuff (27.6%).

🚨 DO NOT use Fusions/LFRs with Divinity + Particle otherwise you WILL lower your damage! 🚨

In short, if you’re running Fusion Rifles or LFRs with Particle Reconstruction and Divinity in the same loadout, you’re losing damage instead of gaining it. So for now, you may want to avoid pairing Particle Reconstruction with Divinity on Fusion and Linear Fusion Rifles if you want to keep your damage output high.
As of now, Bungie has not commented on this issue, but given how much attention it’s getting in the community, the developer is likely aware of it.
In other Destiny 2 news, it appears Bungie is adding yet another highly-requested shader later this episode. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
