Oscar-nominated and Red Dead Redemption 2 voice actor Graham Greene has died at 73.
Graham Greene, the Oscar-nominated star of “Dances with Wolves” and a veteran of film, TV, and games, has died at 73. He passed away earlier today, September 1, 2025, in Toronto after a long illness. Tributes highlight a decades-long career and his influence as a First Nations performer who opened doors for many.
In a statement to Deadline, Greene’s agent Michael Greene said, “he was a great man of morals, ethics, and character and will be eternally missed. You are finally free. Susan Smith is meeting you at the gates of heaven.”
For players, Greene’s most recognizable game role was Rains Fall in Rockstar Games‘ acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2, where he provided voice and performance capture for the thoughtful Wapiti chieftain. Rockstar’s Dan Houser once noted that Greene brought real depth to the character, a calm, humane presence in a violent world.
On the big screen, Greene earned an Academy Award nomination for Dances with Wolves (1990) and went on to appear in Die Hard with a Vengeance, Maverick, and The Green Mile. Recent fans may also know him from Wind River. These credits only scratch the surface of a career that spanned more than four decades.
Greene stayed busy on TV, too, with memorable turns in Reservation Dogs, Echo, 1883, and Tulsa King. He had a knack for grounding every scene, whether he was playing a stern elder, a wry side character, or someone quietly holding a story’s moral center.
It’s a tough loss. Fans will be revisiting his work in movies, shows, and of course, RDR2, listening again to Rains Fall’s gentler lessons and remembering the actor who made them land.
