Red Dead Redemption 2 voice actor Rob Wiethoff teases “exciting news” arriving next week, following recent reports of a next-gen update and Nintendo Switch 2 release.
It’s been nearly seven years since Red Dead Redemption 2 launched, and fans are still hoping for a proper next-gen upgrade to bring the game up to modern standards on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. And lately, that hope has started to feel more real. According to multiple reports, Rockstar is finally gearing up to release an enhanced version of RDR2 for current-gen consoles, and surprisingly, also for Nintendo Switch 2.
The most notable report came from reliable insider Nate The Hate, who said earlier this month that Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to receive a next-gen patch alongside a full release for the Switch 2. He mentioned a release window of late summer to early fall 2025, just a few months after the new Nintendo hardware hits the market.
But while Rockstar has stayed quiet, something new has fans thinking an official reveal could be just around the corner.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch 2 and Next-Gen Update Announcement Imminent?
During a Twitch stream earlier today, Red Dead Redemption voice actor Rob Wiethoff, who plays John Marston, shared that he has some major news to share next week. He didn’t say exactly what it was about, but given the timing, it’s hard not to connect the dots.
“I’ve got such exciting news. I can’t share it with you right now, and it’s absolutely killing me. By the end of this week, hopefully sooner, I guess probably not as soon as tomorrow, but definitely before Friday,” he said.
“Oh my goodness, the news that I have to share, and I won’t be the only one sharing it. I cannot wait for you to know what’s going on. And that’s all I can say. And I’m not trying to be… I’m just telling, that’s the only thing I can think about right now.
“And you will know soon enough. I can’t wait for you to know. I am so excited, but I truly cannot think about anything else, especially playing this game. I can’t… can’t think of anything else.”
While he never specifically said it was related to Red Dead Redemption 2, the fact that he dropped this tease while playing the original Red Dead Redemption on stream is hard to ignore, especially when he added, “I truly cannot think about anything else, especially playing this game.” Given the timing and all the recent reports about an RDR2 next-gen upgrade and Switch 2 release, it’s starting to feel like more than just a coincidence.
As of now, Rockstar hasn’t confirmed anything officially. No announcement has been made about a next-gen patch, Switch 2 release, or anything new related to Red Dead. But if Wiethoff’s tease is what we think it is, fans may not have to wait much longer.
