A new report claims CD Projekt Red is working on brand-new story DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, more than 10 years after the game first launched.

CD Projekt Red has a lot going on right now. Between Cyberpunk 2 (also known as Project Orion), the highly anticipated The Witcher 4, the studio is quietly juggling at least nine active projects. Interestingly, three of them haven’t even been announced yet, two are games, while the third is reportedly something outside of gaming.

Now, it looks like one of those secret projects might be a new story DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, yes, you read that right. A brand-new narrative add-on for a game that came out back in 2015 might actually be happening, according to a new report.

The Witcher 3 Story DLC Reportedly in the Works at Fool’s Theory

The report comes from the Polish YouTuber Remigiusz Maciaszek, who shared the information in a new episode of their podcast. According to the new details, multiple sources have confirmed that a new story-based DLC for The Witcher 3 is in active development and is being handled by Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of former senior developers who worked on the original game.

“Based on the information we’ve gathered, the unannounced project from CD Projekt Red, being developed by Fool’s Theory, is a story-based DLC for The Witcher 3,” they said during the video. “And this information has been confirmed by several independent sources.”

He added that he’s heard the planned release window is sometime in 2026, but even that hasn’t been locked down fully. At this point, it’s still unclear how big the DLC will be, how much it might cost (if anything), or how it will tie into potentially The Witcher 4’s storyline.

“Now, a very important point. We have to separate what we know from what we don’t know. We know that this is a DLC for The Witcher 3. I’ve come across one piece of information, though I can’t confirm it any further, that the earliest release would be next year. We also have a rough idea of the release order: first, console mods, then the Witcher 3 DLC, then The Witcher 4, and then the Witcher 1 remake.”

“What we don’t know: we don’t know how long it will be, whether it will cost money or be free, and if it does cost money, what the price will be. We also have no idea when the release date is.”

It’s also worth noting that CD Projekt Red has acknowledged that Fool’s Theory is working on The Witcher 1 Remake. Besides this unannounced DLC, CDPR is also actively working on:

  • Cyberpunk 2 (Project Orion)
  • The Witcher 4 (Project Polaris)
  • Project Sirius
  • The Witcher 1 Remake (Canis Majoris)
  • Project Hadar

With all of this in motion, it’s a good idea to take this report with a healthy grain of salt. While it comes from a reliable source and lines up with recent CDPR statements, things in game development can always change.

One important thing to keep in mind: there’s no confirmation yet on whether this Witcher 3 story DLC will be a large-scale expansion like Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine, or if it’ll just be a smaller update of new quests. Either way, it’s wild (and kind of exciting) to think The Witcher 3 could be getting new content 10 years after its original release.

Earlier this year, CDPR confirmed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 60 million copies. “I am proud to announce that since its release, The Witcher 3 has sold over 60 million copies, securing a place among the bestselling video games in all history, and motivating us to carry on with intensive work on the next trilogy set in this universe,” said Adam Badowski, joint CEO of CD Projekt.
