Insider Jeff Grubb claims Sony is preparing a State of Play or Showcase for late September 2025.

Sony might have something big lined up for next month. According to insider Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, the company is preparing either a PlayStation Showcase or a State of Play event by the end of September 2025. While nothing is official yet, Grubb says he’s confident that updates are coming soon.

Speaking on Game Mess Mornings today, Grubb explained:

“I’ve heard, this is—I’m comfortable saying—they’re planning a State of Play or maybe a Showcase, but probably a State of Play for the end of September or before the end of September,” Grubb said. “So, we’re going to get updates from Sony here pretty soon. And I don’t think Fairgames shows up at that thing, I think they are going to focus on a handful of other stuff.”

PlayStation State of Play Reportedly Happening in September 2025

If true, Sony’s September presentation would likely give fans updates on upcoming titles, though expectations should be managed. Grubb was careful to point out that Haven Studios’ Fairgames probably won’t be part of the lineup.

That’s not too surprising given the recent uncertainty surrounding the game. Earlier this summer, Fairgames was delayed into 2026 following reports of mixed playtest feedback. On top of that, Jade Raymond, the founder of Haven Studios, stepped away from the project.

Speculation that the game was canceled spread quickly after comments from analyst Michael Pachter, but he later walked those statements back, saying he had misspoken. For now, Fairgames remains in development, but its future is still a bit murky.

As always, it’s worth taking this with a grain of salt. Sony hasn’t officially announced anything yet, and plans can always shift internally. Still, with September just around the corner, it won’t be long before we find out if Grubb’s information holds true.
