A new Resident Evil 9 rumor has surfaced online, revealing some gameplay details from two playtests featuring Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 9 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated titles in the iconic survival horror series. Earlier this month, some leaked details hinted at the return of fan-favorite characters like Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy, a mysterious island setting, and new enemies such as the Goatman and a villain named Mr. Simon.

Now, additional details from two separate closed playtests—one in April and another in September—shed more light on the Resident Evil 9 story and gameplay mechanics. These details come from Biohazard Declassified, shared by the Residence of Evil YouTube channel.

However, as with all unconfirmed rumors, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.

Resident Evil 9 Leaked Gameplay Details

This rumor comes from the Residence of Evil YouTube channel, which shared detailed information about two playtests conducted by Capcom for Resident Evil 9. The first playtest, held in April 2024, featured Jill Valentine exploring an abandoned hospital on an island.

Her mission involves locating “a serum to combat the mutamycete infection affecting the residents.” Jill encounters “mold-infected zombies,” armed with weapons like “knives, axes, scythes, and pieces of wood.” Her inventory includes a shotgun, pistol, knife, crafting materials for ammunition, and classic healing items like herbs and aid sprays.

A creature known as “the Goatman,” armed with a large axe stalks Jill throughout. While it cannot be killed, it can be temporarily incapacitated. “The Goatman, on the other hand, has horns, a huge mouth on his belly, and a large axe.”

Jill receives radio support from Chris Redfield, who provides insights into the hallucinatory effects of the infection and the importance of stopping the bioweapon. Barry Burton also makes an appearance, advising Jill on weapon upgrades. The playtest “ends with Jill being overpowered by the Goatman, leaving her unconscious and infected.”

A second playtest in September 2024, featured Leon Kennedy on a beach at night, transitioning into a dense forest near Mr. Simon’s laboratory. Leon is tasked with tracking down Simon, who is “involved in creating cloned bioweapons of Eveline.” His inventory includes a “machine gun, pistol, knife, and aid sprays.”

Enemies include zombies wielding axes, a “witch-like woman” who transforms into flies, and hallucinated doglike creatures. The witch, described as seductive and eerie, cannot be killed and taunts Leon throughout.

Leon’s journey ends at a Blue Umbrella (BSAA) research base, hinting at larger organizational involvement. “Leon observes zombies praying to a large moon by a bonfire on a beach. The playtest concludes with Leon arriving at a Blue Umbrella / BSAA, suggesting that more agents might be needed for this mission.”

These are all the key details shared in the video. As mentioned above, we suggest taking everything with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.
