Sony canceling two live service games, including a God of War game, was because of Concord failing, a new report claims.

Sony’s big live-service push just hit another snag. A new report has surfaced claiming that the recent cancellation of two unannounced live-service games at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games was directly tied to the failure of Concord, a PlayStation project that didn’t even last two weeks on the market.

For context, PlayStation’s strategy in recent years has leaned heavily on live-service games—those multiplayer games designed to keep players spending over months or even years. Jim Ryan, the retired head of Sony Interactive Entertainment, championed an ambitious plan to launch 12 live-service games by 2026.

The company even acquired Bungie, the studio behind Destiny 2, to help other teams crack the live-service formula. But things haven’t gone smoothly, with several projects already canned, and now, Bend and Bluepoint’s main projects have joined that list.

Sony Canceled Two Live Service Games Because of Concord Failing?

The latest news comes from Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, who claims these cancellations stem from the failure of Concord. Speaking on his podcast, Grubb said, “This happened because of Concord, like this should be clear, that’s what I’ve been told.”

He added that Sony’s struggles with the project have caused a major shakeup across its live-service portfolio. “Sony is shell shocked from Concord and now they’re going around to every studio and they’re reassessing every single project, and if it’s a live-service project, it has a lot of friction going against it preventing it from getting a chance to actually come out.”

Bend and Bluepoint’s canceled games were reportedly the studios’ main projects. Bluepoint, known for remakes like Demon’s Souls, had been working on a live-service God of War game since 2022 after helping with God of War Ragnarok.

While those projects are now off the table, Sony’s live-service lineup still includes Bungie’s Marathon, Fairgame$, the Horizon MMO, Gummy Bears, and a couple of others.
