SIE Russia is refusing to release the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered on the Russian PlayStation Store, an official report says.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was officially released yesterday first on PlayStation 4. While this decision by Activision was obvious, it upset many Call of Duty players on other platforms. Xbox One and PC will get the release on April 30th.
No Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered on the Russian PS Store
This news comes from the official Call of Duty Russia Twitter account. The tweet says:
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a completely fictional 2009 campaign, recreated in HD quality. SIE decided not to sell the game in the Russian PS Store. We look forward to the release of the game in digital form for the PC in Battle.net and on Xbox consoles”
It’s pretty obvious why Sony doesn’t want to release the Remastered version of MW2 specifically on the Russian PS Store, it’s because of the controversial “No Russian” mission that has not been removed in the MW2CR.
Back in 2016, Activision did comment on this controversial mission and made it optional for those who don’t want to play it.
“The most memorable reaction was from an enlisted gentleman who immediately put down the controller and left the room”, said Mohammad Alavi (level designer) in an interview in 2016. “He said he wouldn’t play that level. He would play the rest of the game, but not that level. That’s where the decision to make it skippable came from. We didn’t want anyone interested in the rest of the game to be blocked by something they found morally wrong.”
Call of Duty Modern Warfare is released on October 25, 2019, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
