Looking for the best and the fastest way to farm Strange Coins in Destiny 2? You’ve come to the right place!

Strange Coin has been a currency since the early days of Destiny when it was originally launched in 2014. These mysterious coins were once the primary currency used to purchase exotic gear from Xur, the exotic vendor who appeared each weekend in a random location.

With the launch of Destiny 2, the role of Strange Coins shifted. Although they disappeared for a time, Bungie reintroduced them as part of Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Pack.

Today, in Destiny 2, Strange Coins have taken on a new life with The Final Shape expansion. Xur, who continues to serve as the game’s exotic vendor, now offers more than just weapons and armor. The vendor has undergone a rework, expanding his inventory to include exotic catalysts and other valuable items.

However, it’s the new addition of Exotic Class Items that has caught the attention of many Guardians. Following feedback and criticism from the community regarding the new Exotic Class Items, Bungie introduced a new option allowing players to purchase these items directly from Xur.

Best Ways to Farm Strange Coins in Destiny 2

Now that Strange Coins have regained their importance, farming them efficiently has become a priority for many players, especially to get those sweet Exotic Class Items. Here are the best methods to earn Strange Coins in Destiny 2:

  1. Double Loot Grandmaster Nightfall: When the Double Loot modifier is active for the Grandmaster Nightfalls, these become the best way to farm the most Strange Coins in the game. But since the Double Loot modifier isn’t active every week, this is very conditional.
  2. Destination Strikes: After that, the best way to farm is the Devil’s Lair strike. Simply select the strike from the Cosmodrome map and start farming!
  3. Ritual Activities: The third option is farming ritual activities as well as lower-difficulty Nightfalls. These aren’t the best way to farm Strange Coins but they can be a great passive way to get them if you’re simply doing these activities for other objectives.

Strange Coins Max Cap in Destiny 2

Keep in mind that the maximum cap for Strange Coins is set at 99. This means you can hold up to 99 Strange Coins before you need to spend or use them. After reaching the cap, you will stop receiving additional Strange Coins from activities.

Once you hit the cap, you’ll need to use your Strange Coins on Xur’s inventory or other in-game purchases to continue earning and collecting more coins.

Favor of the Nine Buff

The Favor of the Nine buff (or Strange Favor) enhances your Strange Coin farming by providing a chance to receive bonus Strange Coins with each drop. When activated, this buff allows you to earn additional Strange Coins on top of the base amount you receive, with the bonus stacking up to three times.

  • Strange Favor: Grants extra Strange Coins when completing Vanguard Ops or Onslaught activities, or also for winning Crucible or Gambit matches. Rewards increase with additional stacks.

To activate this buff, you need to spend 47 Strange Coins with Xur. Once obtained, the buff lasts for 11 days, giving you ample time to maximize your gains. You can acquire up to three such buffs in total, significantly boosting your Strange Coin rewards during this period.

Where to Use Strange Coins in Destiny 2

Once you’ve got enough Strange Coins, it’s time to head over to Xur. As mentioned above, Xur now offers Exotic Class Items for 41 Strange Coins. These items are RNG drops, meaning the stats and perks are random, but the lack of a purchase limit allows you to keep trying until you get the perfect roll.

Additionally, Xur still offers his usual selection of exotic gear, weapons, and now exotic catalysts.
