Marvel is working on Thor 5, with a new director set to replace Taika Waititi, according to a new report from a trusted industry leaker.
Fans have been speculating about the future of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Chris Hemsworth posted an emotional video thanking everyone for the journey so far. The clip, which features highlights from his earliest days as Thor all the way through Love and Thunder, left a lot of people wondering if this might be his way of saying goodbye to the character.
With Avengers: Doomsday coming up, theories about Thor’s fate have been everywhere online. Adding to the speculation, rumors of Thor 5 have started picking up steam over the past few weeks. There’s been a lot of talk about whether Marvel would continue the Thor story and, if so, who would be behind the camera after Taika Waititi’s run with the last two films.
Now, it looks like we have some new details.
Thor 5 Moving Ahead With a New Director, Says Leaker
There’s new info to back up all this talk. Well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman shared on his (paywalled) Patreon that Marvel is officially developing Thor 5 as part of the next saga in the MCU. The big news? Taika Waititi won’t be coming back as director. According to Richtman, Marvel is looking for someone new to take the reins on the next chapter for the God of Thunder.
“Marvel is developing a Thor 5 for the next saga, and Taika Waititi is not coming back,” the post reads.
As for when fans might actually see Thor 5 hit theaters, there’s no official word yet from Marvel. Since Daniel Richtman mentioned that the film is being developed for the “next saga” of the MCU, it’s likely still a few years away. Marvel already has several projects lined up for its current phases, so if Thor 5 is part of what comes next, the earliest release date could be late 2027 or even later.
This matches up with earlier rumors that Chris Hemsworth could be interested in continuing as Thor, but might want a fresh direction for the series. Richtman’s track record with Marvel news has been strong, but it’s always smart to remember that plans can change fast in Hollywood, and nothing is official until Marvel announces it themselves.
