Destiny 2 fans are outraged after Bungie decides to bring back the seasonal Power level grind in Episode Revenant, sparking backlash over what players call a “cheap way to drive up player engagement.”
Bungie made a major change to Destiny 2 when it decided to remove the seasonal Power level grind, a change that was widely praised by fans.
For many, this was a welcome relief—players no longer had to worry about completing pinnacle activities just to get to the new Power level cap for the season.
However, surprisingly, Bungie has announced today that the seasonal Power level grind will return with the launch of Destiny 2’s next episode, Revenant, introducing a new Power level cap.
New Destiny 2 Revenant Power Cap
In Episode Revenant, the new Power Floor will start at 1900, with a Soft Cap at 1950, a Powerful Cap at 2000, and a Hard or Pinnacle Cap at 2010. “Starting on October 8 with Revenant (and again in the next Episode), we’ll once more be increasing Power caps by 10 to return that pursuit to end-game players,” Bungie wrote in today’s This Week in Destiny article.
The community’s response to Bungie reintroducing the seasonal Power level grind has been overwhelmingly negative. Shortly after the announcement, fans took to social media and forums to express their frustration.
“That’s not ‘returning that pursuit’. It’s putting players on a hamster wheel,” one Reddit user bluntly stated. Another user says that the changes to the Power level are “completely tone deaf”.
Many players believe that the pinnacle Power level grind doesn’t add meaningful content to the game. One fan pointed out, “Gaming should be an escape not a second job. I should want to grind content for a carrot of a god roll or something, not half an hour in an activity that annoys me only to get a duplicate slot pinnacle that invalidates my play time.”
As of now, the “Trending” section of Bungie’s official forums is flooded with discussions about the Power level changes announced for Episode Revenant. The front page alone has over ten separate threads by different players.
“Adding the seasonal power grind back to the game when it’s almost universally hated by the community is incredibly tone deaf,” replied another player on Reddit.
While some hardcore players may welcome the changes of the new Power level cap, the general consensus among the community is that the return of the seasonal Power grind is an unwelcome step backward.
