Yesterday, GameStop sent out letters to their employees revealing that they will be closing down stores in the US due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. According to GameStop Italy, customers who pre-ordered the physical version of DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will need to re-order these two games online to receive a copy if they’ve already pre-ordered any of these two games.
This comes from the official GameStop Italy website. According to the DE and ACNH pages, After re-ordering the games online again, your first pre-order ‘will be waiting for you’ when and IF the store re-opens. And then you can ‘move it to other video games pre-orders (bookings) of your choice or cancel it according to the contractual forms.’
“Have you booked DOOM Eternal in the store? don’t worry about the advance, it will be there waiting for you on your return. You can move it to any other booking of your choice or cancel it according to the contractual forms. If you took advantage of the offer by bringing back your used one, we will keep the SUPERVALUATION OF YOUR USED for you!” (Doom Eternal)
“In order not to stop your desire for adventure, book ONLINE a copy of the game at the promotional price.” (Animal Crossing: New Horizons)
While this may seem the reasonable and right thing to do, many customers are upset and furious that they would need to spend money on these two titles again in order to play it. A thing worth noting is that this change is only applicable to DOOM Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is now officially released.
With upcoming titles like The Last of Us II and Final Fantasy VII Remake, consumers who pre-ordered the game are being cautious if they’ll receive it or if will they need to re-order the games again.
