In a surprising revelation, Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon, has confessed to considering and even creating a Destiny 2 Dating Sim internally.
This is from a recent roundtable interview where several Destiny 2 developers and media outlets discussed details about Season of the Wish’s narrative, the new Warlord’s Ruin dungeon, and the future of Destiny 2’s storytelling.
During the Q&A session, Staff designer Clayton Kisko mentioned that the team is happy with the positive feedback received from the community for the new activity, The Coil which was introduced in Season of the Wish.
Kisko also added that the team is considering the possibility of introducing more activities similar to The Coil, as they are eager to continue exploring this concept.
Following Kisko’s comment, the PR overseer made a joke about whether Bungie had experimented with dating sim games. Although the question was meant to be a joke, someone actually answered it. The lead narrative designer at Bungie, Jonathan To, revealed that the company had created experimental games, including dating sims, during game development jams.
“We have, what do you call those, game jams, and stuff like that has been made in game dev jams within Bungie,” said Jonathan To.
Not much information was disclosed about the internal Destiny 2 dating sim apart from that it’s real. It is unlikely that fans will ever get to see or play it. However, considering that it was created during in-house game jams, it’s safe to assume that it was a relatively simple project unless it involved many developers.
