Destiny 2’s Trials of Osiris has hit its lowest player count since 2021, with only 109,449 players last week.
Destiny 2’s competitive PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, has been a staple for hardcore players looking to prove their skills. First introduced in Destiny 1, this mode offered a unique elimination format and exclusive rewards.
Now, it looks like this endgame PvP mode is in a bit of a rough patch. Despite Bungie’s best efforts to keep things fresh with new armor, weapons, and cosmetics, players just aren’t sticking around like they used to which could be because of several different factors.

The weekly player count for Trials of Osiris has dropped to its lowest since August 2021—a full three years ago. That’s a pretty significant dip, especially considering the game received a new expansion, The Final Shape, just two months ago.
Over the past weekend, which ended on August 20, 2024, the Trials of Osiris experienced a decline in its player count, dropping to 109,449. This marks the lowest player count since August 10, 2021, when it had fewer than 100,000 weekly players.

One of the main reasons behind this decline in population may not be solely attributed to the game mode itself, but rather to Destiny 2 as a whole. Following Bungie’s recent round of layoffs, which saw over 200 staff members being let go, community sentiment toward the game has been negative, resulting in decreased overall interest in the game.
