Bungie has shared a teaser for Destiny 2‘s upcoming Sundered Doctrine dungeon, and it has players debating its potential location.
The excitement for Destiny 2 Episode Heresy is building as Bungie prepares to launch the next major update. This upcoming episode is set to bring back the fan-favorite Dreadnaught, which many players fondly remember from the Taken King days.
The Hive is once again stepping into the spotlight, with a storyline that will feature “a ton of twists and turns,” according to Bungie. In addition, the developer has also shared some new details for the new dungeon launching days after the episode.
This new dungeon is called “Sundered Doctrine” set to drop on Friday, February 7, 2025. The dungeon teaser reveals that players will “travel to Savathûn’s Throne World and infiltrate Rhulk’s Pyramid Ship”
While that already sounds intense, it’s the smaller details surrounding the announcement that have fans scratching their heads and debating about its potential location.
Destiny 2 Sundered Doctrine Dungeon Teasers
As part of the latest This Week in Destiny blog article, Bungie revealed a new emblem, Trigonic Amber, which players can earn by tuning into the dungeon race on Twitch next month. The emblem’s design is the reason behind a ton of speculation and fan theories.
It features a Pyramid Ship, Mercury-inspired imagery, and a Hive worm, a combination that’s got players wondering if there’s more to the dungeon’s location than Bungie has let on.
Some fans on Reddit have pointed out how closely the emblem resembles the cradle-like structure behind the Infinite Forest portal on Mercury. Others have noticed that the Pyramid Ship design looks eerily similar to the one seen in Mercury’s skybox during the Season of Arrivals.
These connections have started theories that the dungeon might involve Mercury, despite the teaser mentioning Rhulk’s Pyramid Ship and Savathûn’s Throne World.
“Whilst that looks a lot like Mercury and the sun, the emblem name has something to do with Amber. This kind of seems like a Jurassic Park-type thing with the DNA preserved for centuries in an amber. So perhaps this has to do with Asha and the Proto-Worms,” one user said.
However, it’s also possible that the emblem is entirely unrelated to the dungeon. While the Hive worm in the design suggests a thematic tie to Episode Heresy, this could just be a fun cosmetic reward for the community, and nothing more. Bungie hasn’t confirmed anything beyond what’s in the teaser.
With so many possibilities up in the air, fans are split on what to expect. Will the dungeon take us to Mercury, or is this just wishful thinking?
