Bungie revealed new details about Destiny 2 Episode Heresy, including its content and exotic changes, but there’s bad news for players hoping for new exotic armor pieces.

Bungie recently gave us a detailed look at Destiny 2 Episode Heresy during its latest developer livestream, and there’s a lot to be excited about. Launching on February 4, 2025, this Hive-themed episode introduces new The Nether activity, sandbox updates, and an exotic mission.

Players can also look forward to reworked exotics and new Aspects. However, when it comes to brand-new exotic armor, Bungie has shared some not-so-good news. While the livestream showcased plenty of updates, including the new Star Wars collaboration, this news of no new exotic armor left some fans a bit disappointed.

No New Exotic Armor in Destiny 2 Heresy

After the livestream, players started asking Bungie directly about the absence of new exotic armor in Episode Heresy. In a Reddit comment, Bungie officially confirmed that Heresy won’t be bringing any new exotic armor to the table.

The developer clarified that it is focusing on exotic reworks and buildcrafting rather than introducing brand-new exotic pieces this time around. In simpler terms, instead of getting shiny new armor to play with, players will have the chance to try out updated versions of older exotics. Here’s what Bungie said:

“Heresy will bring quite a lot of Exotic reworks, new Aspects, and new Arc verbs to the overall sandbox. While there won’t be new exotics, there will be tons to buildcraft around and reasons to pull out old favorites (or things that have been sitting in your vault) to give them a try.”

Adding to this, Bungie’s Global Community Lead, Dylan Gafner, also addressed player concerns about the lack of new exotic armor in Episode Heresy. Taking to X (Twitter), Gafner acknowledged the feedback, saying: “Hear the feedback on concerns over a lack of Exotic Armors for Heresy,” while drawing a comparison between introducing a single new exotic versus the new Aspects and reworked gear arriving in the next episode.

For those stockpiling exotic engrams in anticipation of new armor, Gafner offered a suggestion: “Spend ’em on rebalanced Exotics to snag some higher stat rolls and such!”

On the brighter side, Heresy does feature new exotic weapons, like the Strand SMG Barrow-Dyad and Lodestar—the first-ever Primary Ammo Trace Rifle. Bungie has also shared a preview of the new Artifact which you can check out here.
