Here’s everything you need to do, step by step.

How To Get The Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG in Destiny 2

To get Barrow-Dyad, you need to complete the new Derealize Exotic Mission in Destiny 2. However, before you can even access that mission, you’ll have to go through The Taken Path quest, which includes several objectives across different locations.

Let’s go through each part in order so you can get this weapon as efficiently as possible.

Step 1: Unlock The Taken Path Exotic Quest

To begin, you need to complete the Week 2 story mission in Episode Heresy. Once that’s done, load into The Nether seasonal activity. You’ll need to find a Taken Blight floating. While the exact locations of where this Blight spawns are currently unknown, the quickest way to get it is by launching into the Hall of Souls area.

Make your way towards the King’s Fall’s opening area, you’ll see the blight at the ceiling on the right pillar. Pull out your Ghost to see the invisible platforms leading up to it.

Jump into the Blight, and it will pull you into a portal. When you land, step on a rune plate, and an icon will appear, giving you a direction prompt (e.g., right, forward, backward). Walk in that direction while keeping your aim on the rune. If you do this correctly, you’ll be teleported past the Taken barrier where you can interact with an object to officially start the quest.

Pick it up and you’ll get a Taken Osseous Fragment.

Step 2: Activating the Rune in Eris Morn’s Apartment

Head over to Eris Morn’s Shaping Slab in her apartment. It will give you a new exotic quest called “The Taken Path,” pick it up. The next step is to apply the Scotopic Rune.

Under Runic Enhancements, select the Scotopic Rune. Keep in mind that this requires you to level up the seasonal vendor.

This is what will allow you to progress in the quest. Once you have it activated, your next destination is the Moon.

Step 3: Collecting the First Taken Osseous Fragment (Sorrow’s Harbor, Moon)

Go to K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow’s Harbor on the Moon. Once inside, you’ll see a small Taken Blight after the first section. Shoot it, then stand on a rune plate and look at the rune. Just like before, you’ll get a directional prompt.

Step off in the indicated direction while still looking at the rune. If you do this right, a wave of Taken enemies will spawn. Defeat them all, take down the boss, and you’ll collect your one of two Taken Osseous Fragment.

Step 4: Collecting the Second Taken Osseous Fragment (Forgotten Shore, Cosmodrome)

Now, head to Forgotten Shore in Cosmodrome, Earth. Your target is Veles Labyrinth Lost Sector. Just like in the previous step, locate the rune plate, follow the direction prompt, and defeat all the Taken enemies that appear. Once you’ve cleared them out, you’ll earn the second Taken Osseous Fragment.

Step 5: Completing the Three Side Objectives

After getting both fragments, return to Eris’ Shaping Slab. You’ll now have three new Legendary quests to complete: Curse of Endurance, Curse of Revenge, and Curse of Urgency.

Curse of Endurance: Sorrow’s Harbor Taken Relic Event

Go back to Sorrow’s Harbor on the Moon and find a Taken Relic marked by a waypoint. Pick it up and kill enemies until the relic is fully charged. Once it’s ready, dunk it back at the same spot where you picked it up.

Step 6: Finding Taken Osseous Fragments in The Nether

Now that the curses have been lifted, return to The Nether and search for Hive Statues. These statues will spawn yellow-bar enemies when interacted with. Once you kill them, you can pick up the Taken Osseous Fragments at the statue’s location.

  • Hall of Souls: Statue is on the right platform after loading in.
  • Trenchway: Found outside near a Solar crystal dunking area.
  • Mausoleum: Drop down from spawn and look behind the blue crystal formations.

Once you collect all the fragments, you unlock the Derealize Exotic Mission.

Step 7: Completing the Derealize Exotic Mission

Load up Derealize, the final mission to claim your exotic SMG. Here’s what to expect:

  • Suffocating Terror Mechanic: Avoid the floating Taken Eyes, if they see you for too long, you’ll start stacking Suffocating Terror, which can kill you.
  • Taken Relic Puzzles: You’ll need to pick up Taken Relics, charge them by killing enemies, and then use them to access new areas.
  • Final Boss Fight: You’ll battle two versions of the same boss, one in normal space, one in Taken space. You’ll be swapping between dimensions as the fight progresses.
