Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 is rumored to be getting a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, along with a Nintendo Switch 2 release later this year.
Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t just another game, it’s become a classic, with a massive fanbase still active years after its original release. It’s one of those games that just sticks with you, regardless of whether you’re just hunting legendary animals or just soaking in the beautiful open-world landscape.
Recently, rumors have started heating up about something huge: a proper next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and believe it or not, a brand-new release on Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Now, another source has claimed that these rumors are legit and the game is indeed set to receive a next-gen upgrade along with a Switch 2 release later this year.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Upgrade and Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date
The latest information comes straight from Nate the Hate, a well-known leaker and industry insider with a strong track record on Nintendo news. On a recent episode of his YouTube podcast, Nate dropped some pretty big claims about Rockstar’s plans for Red Dead Redemption 2.
According to Nate, the rumors about a next-gen update for Red Dead Redemption 2 are “true.” He specifically said that Rockstar is planning to release a next-generation patch for the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and at the same time, launch the game for Nintendo’s much-anticipated Switch 2. The expected window for all of this? A few months after the Switch 2 launches, which could mean late summer or early fall this year.
“Those rumors are true. Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting a next-gen update, and the game will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year… from what I was told, it should be a few months after the Switch 2 launch. So I’m thinking maybe that late summer, early fall window,” he said.
While there’s no official confirmation from Rockstar just yet, this news has definitely gotten fans talking. It’s easy to imagine the excitement of riding through the Wild West again, but this time with next-gen graphics and performance, or playing on the go with a Switch 2.
Of course, it’s smart to take all rumors like this with a grain of salt until Rockstar itself makes an announcement. But if what Nate is saying turns out to be true, 2025 could be a huge year for Red Dead Redemption 2 fans on every platform.
